Announcements
Fundations - Unit 12- In this unit we will introduce multisyllabic words. It will be important to have your child scoop words by syllable. We learn to separate words between consonants and identify that each syllable has its own vowel sound. We will explore compound words (sunfish), words with two closed syllables (napkin) and mixed syllable words like (reptile). This is a 3 week unit before our final new unit for the year unit 13. Unit 14 is a review of the entire curriculum.
In Wit and Wisdom We will be focusing on the geodes that accompany this module and using those to complete our module by April 29th. Students will be taking a grammar quiz on personal pronouns (I, she, he, they, we, my, it, him, her, our, them). Module 4 will be on why people admire the character of Cinderella. The students will be reading various versions of the famous fairy tale.
*Students will be given unannounced assessments in reading on fluency. The only way to study for such assessments is to have your child reading everyday. The geodes are an on grade level source of reading that they should be using daily.
In Math -Module is Module 8 will be on: Data; interpreting data presented in the form of picture/bar graphs, and use of tally marks.
Continue to practice math fluency in addition and subtraction. Quizzes will focus on these skills.
In Science/Social Studies -..We will be studying ways to take care of the Earth and then explore geography (7 continents).
Students will be asked to use recycled materials to create something new and we will have an earth day show and tell based on their creations. Students can create whatever they would like. Projects will be due on Monday April 22nd, Earth day. Along with your creation, please use an index card to write the following: I used ( list materials……..). I created an ( …………..). Created by ( student’s name).
In Religion - Our unit focus is on Prayer. We will be having some meditative prayer sessions in class and exploring how prayer keeps us close to God. I am hoping to utilize the prayer garden as well. We will examine closely the Our Father and the meaning behind the words in the prayer.
