St. Vincent de Paul Christian Service Program (Grades 6-8)

The St. Vincent de Paul Christian Service Program here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is designed to help develop our junior high students into people of compassion and knowledge, people committed to justice, and people for others. During three years at Saint Francis, students will provide service to the greater communities of Belle Harbor, Breezy Point, and the Rockaways. The hope is that through service, the students will become aware of their responsibility to be of service to all. The development of the community, both within and outside the walls of Saint Francis, is a vital goal of the St. Vincent de Paul Christian Service Program and Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. This service is also part of preparing our students for the Sacrament of Confirmation. 

Christian Service Log and Reflection Questions

All service performed for the St. Vincent de Paul Christian Service Program Credit must meet the following criteria:

Benefits the students of Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Academy or a person or organization beyond the walls of Saint Francis de Sales or is for the Parishes of Saint Francis de Sales or Blessed Trinity or is for a non-profit group or organization that follows the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Is performed outside of the regular school day – students will not be excused from school to perform their Christian Service Requirement.

6th Grade Service Hours

All 6th graders are required to complete three (3) hours of Independent Service each trimester. All service for the 6th-grade requirement must be performed and documented before the end of each trimester. 

7th Grade Service Hours

All 7th graders are required to complete five (5) hours of Independent Service each trimester. All service for the 7th-grade requirement must be performed and documented before the end of each trimester. 

8th Grade Service Hours

All 8th graders are required to complete five (5) hours of Independent Service each trimester. All service for the 8th-grade requirement must be performed and documented before the end of each trimester. 

Please note that those students involved with the National Junior Honor Society will have to complete five extra hours to fulfill their service responsibility to remain active in the National Junior Honor Society.
