Stem with Mrs. Powers

Happy 2024!

Off to a great start with 2A using a cube program to design the following characters.  Can you guess what characters are on these ipads?

If you guessed Spongebob and Squidward you are correct!  Great work gentlemen. These are amazing and completely done in one class period when we visited our shape virtual library.

In STEM class we aim to stretch our creative muscles. We work with the Engineering design process:

ASK, IMAGINE, PLAN, CREATE, EXPERIMENT, and of course, IMPROVE.

Please take a look at students in action. Even though I now travel to each room I work to bring the students material they can use to be successful in any given challenge for the day.

Students designed a parachute using coffee filters.

Students discuss if this going to work and how should we redesign it.

The students plan how to attach the string.

Some December fun can be seen here. The students worked with their iPads and how-to websites to draw Christmas elves. This exercise coordinates with their how-to units in class.  They have to follow step-by-step directions to create these images.  Additionally, they learn to pause and remind the videos to work at their own pace.
