Col. 4 Lexile Text Ramge Reflected in CCSS = A Lexile measure on a text indicates the complexity of the reading material. Texts are measured using a algorithm that examines the semantic and syntactic features of the text.

**Lexile measures for texts and learners that fall below 0L on the scale are referred to as Beginning Reading materials or learner abilities. They receive a ‘BR’ notation before the reported measure. A Lexile measure of BR100L indicates that the Lexile measure is 100 units below 0L. Just as -10° is warmer than -30° on a thermometer, a BR100L book is more complex than a BR300L book.

Parent’s Guide to iReady Assessments

Parent Guide to I-Ready

I-READY Parent Meeting 3.2.21

Take the i-Ready Tour

The New York Standards have higher expectations and increased rigor in both English language arts and mathematics. For reading, this includes more complex texts, including both informational and literary texts, as well as close reading and thoughtful use of textual evidence. In mathematics, there is an increased demand for balance between conceptual understanding (why), procedural fluency (how), and application (when).

The New York Standards do not represent a prescribed curriculum, but rather a framework within which educators can help students master key skills and become college and career ready.

The iReady diagnostic assessments help educators and parents help determine where to focus instructional time to ensure all students are on track to meet the rigorous expectations of the New York Learning Standards.

WHAT IS ON THE IREADY READING TESTS?

  • The adaptive Diagnostic covers the main domains: Phonics, Phonological Awareness, High-Frequency Words, Vocabulary, Comprehension of Literature, and Comprehension of Informational Text
  • Diagnostic includes multimedia paired passages in which students are asked to synthesize ideas from multiple sources
  • Assessment and instruction are offered for both reading comprehension of informational and literary texts
  • Online lessons provide explicit instruction on key skills across all domains, including close reading of authentic text
  • Engaging, animated characters model close reading and finding evidence within text

WHAT IS ON THE IREADY MATHEMATICS TEST?

  • The adaptive Diagnostic covers the main mathematical domains: Number and Operations, Algebra and Algebraic Thinking, Measurement and Data, and Geometry
  • Diagnostic questions include new technology-enhanced items
  • Assessment and instruction emphasize conceptual understanding as well as procedural fluency and reflect the standard’s focus on rigor, relevance, and coherence
  • Tasks draw on multiple standards to ensure students are making important connections between math concepts
  • Content builds across grades and major topics are linked within grades

In the Spring of 2022, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy began to work on DeSales115, the Strategic Plan for the Academy. The strategic plan focuses on six domains: Catholic Identity, Academic Excellence, Governance and Leadership, Finance and Development, Enrollment and Marketing, and Resource Planning.

After a great deal of research and discussion, a school-wide writing curriculum was created by members of the Academic Excellence committee.

The writing benchmarks are broken down from kindergarten through eighth grade, where each year scaffolds and builds on the previous year.  In addition to the writing benchmarks, St. Francis de Sales will adopt a writing portfolio system for kindergarten through eighth grade.

We are very proud of the work that has been done, and we look forward to our students growing as readers and writers.
