Next week we kick off our Terranova testing for grades 3-8. Students must be prepared with sharpened pencils each day. Testing will run for approximately 90 minutes a day from Wednesday, October 13th until Wednesday, October 20th. On Monday, October 18th there will be no testing except for makeup exams. This assessment series is administered to all students attending Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese. The Terra Nova is designed to measure concepts, processes, and objectives taught throughout the nation. Terra Nova results are used to: analyze strengths and weaknesses of a student’s achievement in each content area; plan for further instruction; plan for curriculum development; and to report progress to parents. Students are encouraged to be well-rested and eat a good breakfast before the test. While students should not be overly anxious or nervous about this exam, it is important to keep in mind that these scores (Grades 6-8) are sent to the high schools during the application process.
Please take a look at this week’s blast as there is a lot of important information.
On to the next week here at the academy.
Upcoming 4 Day Weekend: Just a reminder that Friday, October 8th is a scheduled day off for students. This is followed by Monday, October 11th being closed for Columbus Day. Enjoy the 4-day Fall weekend!
Socktober: On Friday, 10/15 don’t forget to bring in $1 and wear CRAZY socks.
Pizza Day Thank You: Father Michael Gelfant and Father Jeremy Canna the Pastor and the Parochial Vicar of Blessed Trinity Parish were so touched and impressed by the cards for Priesthood Sunday last week. As a token of their appreciation, they would like to treat the entire school (Pre-K-Grade 8 and staff) to a slice of pizza on Friday, October 15th. Please send in a drink with your child that day. If your child does not like Pizza they are more than welcome to bring lunch that day as well.
Enrichment Programs Starting: Just a reminder that many of our enrichment programs will begin over the next month. Mad Science on October 13 and Crayola World of Design on October 14th. We anticipate that our band classes will either start on Tuesday 10/19 or Tuesday 10/26. More information will be emailed directly to families that signed up for the band.
2021-2022 Yearbook: We will be selling our yearbooks during the month of October as our team of 8th graders begin to work on the yearbook in the Winter of 2021-2022.
To order a yearbook please print out the following Yearbook-Order-Form and send it back to school by Monday 11/1/21.
If you would like to order a school yearbook, (delivery in June) please put your payment of cash or check (payable to SFDSCA & yearbook on the memo line, please do not VENMO) in a sealed envelope and return it to school no later than MONDAY, NOV 1st. There will be no orders accepted after this date. The yearbook is a nice way to remember the school year since each class has an individual page.
Winter and Summer Uniforms: A few families have reached out to the school over the past two weeks about major delays in the shipping of winter uniforms from Flynn and O’Hara. Due to these delays, we will be delaying the start of winter uniform for one week until 10/25. Please note that starting on Monday, October 25th, winter uniforms should be worn. If the temperature is stated to be above 75 degrees that day, summer uniforms may be worn. Please do not take advantage of this policy. 75 degrees does not mean 74 degrees, 73 degrees, etc.
Just a reminder that winter uniforms can always be worn if your family chooses to do so. Summer uniforms are always optional.
We will keep a close eye on this matter and adjust our uniform policy accordingly.
Upcoming Confirmation Practices: For those students receiving the sacrament of Confirmation at St. Francis on 10/22 and 10/23 there are mandatory practices upcoming. For those students receiving at the 1 pm Ceremony on 10/22, their Confirmation practice is on Thursday 10/14 at 6:30 pm. For those students receiving at the 11 am Ceremony on 10/23 their Confirmation practice is on Tuesday 10/19 at 6:30 pm. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Greene the Director of Religious Education of St. Francis de Sales Parish.
8th Grade High School Information: Just a quick reminder for our 8th-grade families that high school information has been sent out many times this past month. Many schools are advertising open houses that will occur during the month of October some this weekend and many next weekend. Also yesterday the academy pushed the extension “Proctorio” on all school devices. Just a reminder this extension is needed to take the TACHS exam. Please begin to have a discussion with your child this weekend of what device he or she will use for the TACHS exam next month. Please note that the device must meet certain requirements and have a working microphone and camera.
