Weekly Update #37 SFDS Week of June 13th 2022

Dear Academy Families,

Congratulations! Today is your day.

You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own.

And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

Dr. Seuss, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”

Congrats to the Class of 2022 who will be graduating next Friday 6/17 at 6 pm from St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. We wish them all the best as they move into the next chapter of their lives.

Onto to some important updates for our school for the Week of June 13th, 2022.

Updated COVID Report: This past week (6/4-6/11) St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy had 3 positive COVID cases.  You can also always see how many cases the school has had since September, the last 14 days, and the last 7 days by clicking here.

If your child is ever showing symptoms of COVID-19 or is in a class with a positive case parents are asked to test their kids before returning to school. Thanks as always for helping keep everyone safe. If you are ever in need of more at home kits please contact Mrs. Endall at hendall@stfrancisschoolbh.net and we will send them home right away.

Farewell Ms. Mangano: After 6 years of creating a top-notch art program Ms. Gabby Mangano will be leaving St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy to pursue a career in Hospitality this summer. On behalf of the entire school community, I  thank Ms. Mangano for her dedication to our school and the Arts. Whether it be weekly art classes, annual Christmas shows, theatre productions, or art galleries like this Wednesday night, our student’s creativity was always front and center. I am happy to say that Ms. Mangano has agreed to help us put on next year’s Christmas show which we plan to be in person in the Gym. Good luck Ms. Mangano!

I-Ready End of the Year Diagnostic Test This week, your child’s i-Ready results from the 2022 Spring Diagnostic Assessment will be shared with you.

i-Ready diagnostic assessments are computer-based assessments that adjust to each child’s mathematics and reading ability levels.  If your child took an i-Ready diagnostic assessment this school year, this end-of-year check will start with content based on those prior results and adapt from there.  As your child answers each question, the test adapts based on your child’s responses.  The questions become easier if the answers are incorrect and get more challenging as correct answers are provided.  Students will see challenging questions.  By finding what students can do, and not do yet, the system is able to provide a more accurate description of your child’s instructional level. This type of assessment individualizes every testing experience so that it more accurately measures your child’s ability.

The assessment data is to help understand where your child is in relation to grade-level standards, provide for practice and assignments at your child’s academic level, and monitor academic growth this school year.

i-Ready will remain available to students through mid-August.  Students and families are encouraged to continue to use the MyPath lessons in i-Ready this summer for one hour each week.

If you choose to continue to use i-Ready in the summer the recommendation is for students to complete up to one lesson per week in reading and/or math again this summer work is highly recommended to be done.

In August of 2022, the school needs to roll over the i-Ready system and roster students for the upcoming school year.  At this time, students will no longer be able to log in.  This is a function of the system as we set up rosters for the next academic year.  Once the school year begins and the fall diagnostic assessment is administered each student’s MyPath will be re-established.

5th- 7th Grade Finals: Finals continue early next week for Grade 5-7. Please be sure that students in 5th-7th grade do not wait until the night before to begin to study and put in the effort that is needed for these exams.

Pizza Day: Just a reminder that next Thursday 6/16 Grades K-2 will have their last pizza day. We look forward to next school year continuing our Bagel Mondays and our Pizza Thursday/Fridays along with bringing back our monthly chicken finger days. Stay tuned this summer for more information.

Beach Parties: As we come to the home stretch of the end of the year we have our end-of-the-year beach parties to celebrate the close of another year of learning. This week Grades 5-7 all have their Beach Parties. Please follow the directives that were given out by the classroom teacher and class parents in earlier correspondences. Please note we are always monitoring the weather for these beach parties and do have a rain date of Thursday 6/16 in case of inclement weather.

Spring Concert: Members of the Paul Effman Band please save the date for Tuesday, June 14th at 7 pm for the annual St Francis de Sales Catholic Academy Band Spring Concert. All are welcome to join us. Since this is our last day all rented instruments will be returned immediately following the concert.  Attire is Sunday Best! No jeans or sneakers.

Kindergarten Information Night: On Monday, June 13th at 6 pm, we will invite our incoming Kindergarten parents to join us for the Kindergarten Information Night. The kindergarten teachers will be sharing all the details of what is in store for your children who are entering their early childhood years. Parents will be receiving supply lists and summer ideas during this meeting as well. We hope to see everyone there.

2022-2023 School Year: As we come to the end of this school year we begin to share information about the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. On our website, there is a landing page for all information about the next school year (Calendar, tuition,  yellow bus, uniform, etc.) In the coming weeks, this landing page will be updated to include information on summer assignments, and the first days of school.

Class Placement: Our faculty works diligently to make sure each and every child is placed with a teacher that best fits their needs. No matter which classroom your child is placed in, they are in supremely good hands. Every one of our teachers is intelligent, loving, and hardworking. As stated each year before, we cannot take requests for class placement. Writing emails or making phone calls to request a specific classroom all receive the same response: we are not able to honor any requests for placement and that your child will be in very good hands wherever they are placed. We thank you for your cooperation.

Summer Concert: We look forward to our outdoor Concert Fundraiser taking place on Thursday, July 7th in the schoolyard.  Jimmy Kenny and the Pirate Beach band will be playing a mix of Jimmy Buffett, Kenney Chesney, Zac Brown, and other summer rock favorites you are sure to love.  It is guaranteed to be a fun night out.  Doors open at 6:30 with a 7:00 pm start.  Bring your own coolers and chairs.  We hope to see you there! If you still need to purchase tickets, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/hSZbE56LNDMXjYwG8

Tickets are $50 each – the amount for the number of tickets indicated on the google form will be charged to your FACTS account.

2022-2023 School Year Volunteering: We anticipate that parent/family volunteers will be fully allowed in our building next school year. For the safety and well-being of each and every child in our school, all volunteers must go through the following process:

1) Read and sign a code of conduct

2) Have a background check

3) Take part in the VIRTUS program. (Register at virtusonline.org. Download the registration guide.)

After completing the VIRTUS Program we ask that you please bring to the office a copy of your certificate for us to keep track of in our database. We hope that this is not an inconvenience for anyone, but we need to be sure that all adults who interact with students are in compliance.

Have a good weekend.
