Dear Academy Families,
Congratulations and God bless to those children who received First Holy Communion last weekend and this upcoming weekend. This Tuesday 5/17 at 11:00 am is the academy’s annual May Crowning led by our second graders. We all should be thankful for the guidance of the Blessed Mother over this past year and honor her by crowning her. Parents of our 2nd graders are welcome to attend, yet please note there is limited seating in the last row or two of the church along with the choir loft.
Onto to some important updates for our school for the Week of May 16th, 2022.
Updated COVID Report: This past week (5/6-5/12) St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy had 3 positive COVID cases. You can also always see how many cases the school has had since September, the last 14 days, and the last 7 days by clicking here.
If your child is ever showing symptoms of COVID-19 or is in a class with a positive case parents are asked to test their kids before returning to school. Thanks as always for helping keep everyone safe. If you are ever in need of more at-home kits please contact Mrs. Endall at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will send them home right away.

Family Survey: In an effort to improve system practices, Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is conducting a Family Survey until Tuesday May 24th. We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey. This survey is similar to the survey’s given over the past two years to compare results. We also have a 2nd survey that we are asking families to complete to help us gauge our academy’s Catholic Identity.

Prevention Starts WITH ALL- The Chris Herren Story: On Tuesday, May 24th at 7 pm. St Francis de Sales Catholic Academy will be hosting a presentation for all adults of our community. Prevention Starts WITH ALL- The Chris Herren Story. Chris Herren is a former professional basketball player, a voice on the topic of substance use prevention, and a wellness advocate. Since 2009, Chris has spoken to over one million students, athletes, and community members, sparking honest discussions on the topics of substance use disorder and wellness. A person in long-term recovery, Chris continues to share his story nationally with a renewed focus on prevention education and challenging audiences to rethink how we look at the disease of addiction – changing the focus from the last day to the first. We hope to have a packed gymnasium on this night. Our 6th-8th graders will be meeting with Mr. Herren during their school day on May 24th as well.
Dress Down Day: On Friday May 20th we are having a Dress Down Day. It is $1 or a Donation to help two SFDS Alumni Daniel (2019) and Sean (2020) O’Malley. They are off to Tennessee to build homes and support those in need and their families through the Companions of St. Francis Xavier Service and Immersion Program (CFX)Red, White, and Blue is the Dress Down Theme. We thank you in advance for your generosity! Daniel and Sean (Class of 2023 and 2024) will be attending the CFX service trip to Tennessee with Xavier High School in August.
Spring Book Fair: A special thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make this Book Fair one of our most successful. A special Thank You to Mrs. Rita Martin our book fair chairperson for coordinating this event. Last Call for Babysitting Night: (Grades K-3) The Graduating Class of 2022 will be organizing a fun night for our Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students. This SFDSCA 8th Grade Babysitting Night allows you to enjoy two and a half hours kid-free on Friday, May 20th, 2022 from 6 pm-8:30 pm open to kids Kindergarten- 3rd grade. This opportunity is open to SFDSCA families ONLY.
Your kids will be supervised by school staff, 8th-grade students, and 8th-grade parent volunteers (VIRTUS trained). Children will be treated to a movie, games, crafts, and organized sports and activities. We will provide the children with a snack (drinks and chips, etc.). Please be sure your child has dinner prior to coming. The fee is $20 for the first child and for each additional child is $5. Please submit the form and send in payment separately to the main office. in an envelope marked “8th Grade Babysitting Night”.
Please RSVP BY May 12th, 2022. We cannot accept registration after the 12th for planning reasons. You will NOT be able to pay the night of the event.
Final Tuition Payment/Tuition 2022-2023: Just a reminder that next week on Monday 5/16 the final tuition payment is due for the 2021-2022 school year. We do ask that all tuition arrears are settled over the next few weeks. We will continue the payment schedule of tuition for the 2022-2023 school year from August 2022-May 2023. Summer Concert: On Thursday, July 7, 2022, the SFDSCA Academy Family Association will be hosting an outdoor concert by Jimmy Kenny and the Pirate Beach Band, a wildly popular cover band playing the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, and the Zac Brown Band.
Tickets will go on sale exclusively for SFDSCA Families on Monday, May 16, 2022. Each family can purchase up to two tickets by completing the form that will be sent out on Monday before Wednesday, May 18th. Tickets are $50 each and will be billed to your FACTS account. Depending on availability, additional tickets may go on sale at a later date. The ONLY way to guarantee your tickets is to order them before the May 18th SFDSCA Family Deadline.
St. Vincent de Paul Service Requirement: As we are almost ½ way into the third trimester, please remember that the 6th, 7th and 8th grade are asked to complete 10, 15, and 20 service hours respectively before the end of each school year. Students must complete a log and reflection by May 13th. For more information about the log sheet students can ask their homeroom teacher. Please note that this service can count towards confirmation hours as well. It cannot count towards NJHS hours. If a child has a question or needs assistance in getting hours completed they can see Mr. Scharbach in the main office.

Spring Cleaning: Time to tidy up and support the 8th Grade SFDS 8th Grade Spring Clothing Drive on Monday, May 23rd from 4pm-7pm in the Small Hall.
Donations may include: gently used clothing, coats, bedding, towels, curtains, pocketbooks, backpacks, stuffed animals, toys. Please keep shoes, boots, sneakers & sports cleats separate from clothing. **Please NO books or kitchen cookware/appliances**
Grade 4 and 8 Science: Grade 4 & 8 will be completing their Science Performance exams on Tuesday May 24th (Grade 4) and Wednesday May 25th (Grade 8). We encourage the students to get a good night’s sleep and eat a hearty breakfast on the mornings of their exams.
Blue and Gold Day: Please save the dates for Wednesday May 25th and Friday May 27th for this year’s Blue and Gold Days. Our Kindergarten-Grade 4 students will be competing on Wednesday 5/25 and our 5th-8th graders will be competing on Friday 5/27. Both days of competition are scheduled to be in the school gymnasium.

Outdoor Movie Night: On Friday May 27th, we will be hosting another Outdoor Movie Night. This year we will be showing Encanto (Sing-a-long Version). Gates open at 7:45am, Movie starts promptly at 8:15. Come celebrate the start of Memorial Day weekend with us! Snacks will be sold. Don’t forget to bring your own beach chair or towel!
Class of 2023 Ring/Pin Service: The Class of 2023 (7th graders) will receive their class rings and pins in St. Francis de Sales Church on Tuesday 5/31 at 7pm. A small reception will follow in the Small Hall. All 7th graders are asked to report to the Small Hall at 6:40pm.
1/2 Day Dismissal: Friday June 3rd is a half-day.Please remember that dismissal is at 12pm and that there is no after school service on half days
5th Annual Art Night: Please join us on June 8th at 5pm for our annual Art Show! Ms. Mangano and our students have worked tirelessly in preparation for a truly superb art gallery display. Math Curriculum Early Childhood Information Nights: On Monday June 6th at 6pm, we will be hosting Nursery and Pre-K information night, and on Monday June 13th at 6pm, we will invite our incoming Kindergarten parents to join us for the Kindergarten Information Night. On both evenings, the early childhood teachers will be sharing all the details of what is in store for your children who are entering their early childhood years. Parents will be receiving supply lists and summer ideas during this meeting as well. We hope to see everyone there.
Catholic Schools Night with the Brooklyn Cyclones: On Tuesday, June 21st, St. Francis De Sales Catholic Academy is planning a “School Spirit Night” at Maimonides Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. Come to historic Coney Island and watch the Cyclones take on the Jersey Shore Blueclaws. Pregame activities include the priests taking on the principals and teachers in the Collars vs Scholars softball game. There will be a ceremony celebrating the Valedictorians and Salutatorians from Catholic schools throughout the diocese.
Tickets are just $15 for St. Francis De Sales Catholic Academy students, teachers, friends, and family members! Front Gates Open to the public at 6:00pm. First Pitch is scheduled for a 7:00PM start.
Each ticket is priced at $15.00. Each ticket comes with a free Brooklyn Cyclones hat. This night is a great way to fundraise for your school, boost that school spirit, hang with family and friends, and celebrate the end of the school year and the countdown to summer vacation.
