Weekly Update #11 SFDS Week of November 22nd

Dear St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy Community,

A houseful of noisy people, cousins playing together after not seeing each other since the last holiday, lots of food served on fancy plates and silver.  Thanksgiving is the universal American holiday.  It welcomes all.  We gather together, not out of media hype or commercial conditioning, but from a personal, conscious need to acknowledge all that we are thankful for and treasure.

My hope for you and your families is that your Thanksgiving will be safe and enjoyable.  Best wishes as you celebrate this holiday.

Now onto a short but busy week at the academy…..

Franny Fun Run: The 2nd Annual Franny Fun Run/Walk is this Saturday, November 20th! The run/walk will start in the schoolyard and then take place along Rockaway Beach Boulevard from Beach 129th to Beach 139th Street and back. Smaller courses will be set up for the younger classes in the schoolyard.

The Academy Family Association is currently planning for what should be a fun morning run/walk and a post-celebration pizza party for all participating students.

All donations up until Tuesday 11/23 will count towards individual and class prizes.

The schedule of events for the day includes:

  • 10:15 AM: Registration Begins in the School Yard – All Participants should arrive early to check-in and pick up their race bibs. (Registration closes at 10:50 AM)
  • 11:00 AM: Mini Race (Run or Walk) for Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students

Christmas Show: Earlier today an email was sent home explaining this year’s Christmas show. Any questions about costumes or dress please contact Ms. Mangano at gmangano@stfrancisschoolbh.net  To take another look at the information sent in the email please click here.

Early Childhood Registration: As we begin to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year, we want to ensure that our plans maximize the benefit to your child/children. In the past few weeks, we issued a Google Form of intent for any current Nursery and Pre-K student here at St. Francis who plans on attending St. Francis in 2022 as a Pre-K or Kindergarten student. Those forms are due by Monday, November 29th.  As always, we thank you for your dedication and support to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. If you have any concerns that we may address, please do not hesitate to call us or email us.

After Thanksgiving, an email will be sent home to families of current students to see if any siblings of current students will be joining our Early Childhood. Please fill out all letters of intent as soon as possible as we will begin open registration in the winter of 2022.  This is especially important to do with our current enrollment numbers.

Report Cards: Please note that all report cards are digitally distributed on Monday 12/6 at about 3 pm via the FACTS Parent Portal. This year all conferences will be done in person and will take place on Tuesday 12/7 from 12:45 pm-2:45 pm and from 6 pm-7:30 pm. On Monday 11/29 we will send out information on signing up for time slots for conferences. All families will have until Sunday 12/5 to sign up for the conferences on Tuesday 12/7. Please note that all conferences will be in person and all health guidelines will be followed. This includes that all attendees must wear a mask regardless of their vaccination status.

Toys for Tots: With the Christmas season approaching, as we look forward to the birth of our Lord, we should remember those less fortunate than us. In the spirit of giving, we are asking that students donate a gift for other children. Please bring in an unwrapped toy or game as soon as possible. All donations will go to children in need. Thank you for your generosity. All donations need to be made by Friday 12/17.
