Spanish Class Week Ending 5/11

¡Buenos Días Parents!

As we are in the middle of May now, we are quickly approaching the end of the year. Most classes are either on their final unit or second to final unit. Some classes are working on final projects, while others are taking notes and learning specific material for a test at the end of the unit that will count as their “final”. As always, I ask for your continued cooperation and that we work as a team to ensure your child’s success in class. Sunday was Cinco de Mayo. This event is a minor holiday based on the Battle of Puebla (May 5, 1862) in the Franco-Mexican War (1861 – 1867). France had an extremely large fleet and military power and was expected to win, however Mexico did win this specific battle which was a cause for celebration. Most cities in Mexico do not celebrate the holiday, however there is celebration in the specific city of Puebla. Americans are known to celebrate this holiday more. Some genuine ways to celebrate the holiday (rather than what the media portrays) can include learning more about the history of the event, supporting authentic Mexican businesses, celebrating without appropriating Mexican culture, or supporting organizations that focus on Human Rights.

Grade 2

2A & 2B – Today, our adventures through color took us to the colors Morado (Purple) and Rosado (Pink). Students worked on using the colors while practicing their speaking skills, writing skills, and word association along with learning about and practicing simple sentence structure in Spanish. Specifically, we discussed how adjectives go after the noun in Spanish.

Homework #5 – For homework, students are to complete the double sided worksheet on Morado and Rosado. The worksheet is to trace the vocabulary word and then color in the pictures associated with that color (for example, if there was a goldfish on the either of the pages, I would not color that in since a goldfish is orange and not purple or pink).

Second Grade will have a test on the color vocabulary on Monday May 20, 2019.

Grade 3

3A & 3C – Students were introduced to and learned about the “Glory Be” in Spanish. Additionally, we went over all of the previous prayers we have covered in class as of today.

3B – As we are a week behind the other classes, students were introduced to the “Our Father” in Spanish.

Students have a quiz next week! There quiz is based on the material we covered this week. For 3A and 3C, the quiz will be on The Sign of the Cross and the Glory Be. For 3B, the quiz will be on the Hail Mary.

Grade 4

4A & 4B – Following our identification of subject pronouns last week, we want to start applying as we approach the end of the year. With that in mind, the next part of our unit is Emotions. Students spent the first part of class searching for the definitions of the 24 vocabulary words relating to emotions. Afterwards, the students were given time to work on a word scramble and a word search to practice their spelling skills as well as building their vocabulary.

Grade 5

5A & 5B – We are still working on our Weather Unit. Students did a word association as well as analyzed the weather in foreign countries. Continue to check Google Classroom and Option C for essential information such as homework assignments, notes, and updates.

Grade 6

6A & 6B – We will not be meeting this week due to the half day we have on Wednesday for the Faculty Meeting. However, the students still have homework due that day that is to be submitted via Google Classroom. Grade 7

Grade 8
