Dear St. Francis de Sales Catholic Family,
And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier’s tomb, and beauty weeps the brave.
— Joseph Rodman Drake, To the Defenders of New Orleans
Memorial Day has come to signify the start of summer for many Americans and is often celebrated with cookouts, family get-togethers, road races and concerts. But the real meaning of Memorial Day has, for too many Americans, gotten lost in holiday hoopla. Memorial Day was created as an occasion to honor those who have paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom. It is our opportunity to stop and give thanks for the many who have died protecting that freedom. Let us next weekend keep all those who have died for this country in our prayers.
See below some issues and topics that will help all be successful during the week of May 18th.
Ascension Thursday: Forty Days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Acts of the Apostles records Jesus’ ascension into heaven. In the Roman Catholic Church, it is one of the universally celebrated feasts, ranking with the feasts of the Passion, of Easter, and Pentecost. The Academy community will gather at 12pm on Thursday to celebrate liturgy on Facebook Live and our school website.
Father Jim’s 25th Anniversary of his Ordination: This Wednesday we gather as a school community at 12pm for Mass. In a special way on this day we celebrate Father Jim Cunningham’s 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. A more formal celebration is planned for the fall. Congratulations Father Jim and God Bless!
Step Up: Heading to the next grade is a big step and we like to celebrate it at St. Francis! At the close of our school year our Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten classes are invited to “Step-Up” to their next grade level. It’s a tradition to end the school year and the students love moving up to the next grade. Although we will not be able to have these ceremonies in person this year we are currently planning very special virtual Step-Up ceremonies and want families to save the date.
Nursery AM: Monday June 15th at 9am
Nursery PM: Monday June 15th at 11am
Pre-K A: Tuesday June 16th at 9am
Pre-K B: Tuesday June 16th at 11am
Kindergarten A: Thursday June 18th at 9am
Kindergarten B: Thursday June 18th at 11am
Your child’s teacher will give more information and details in the coming weeks about the ceremony. About a week before the administration will send out digital invites so our students can participate and families can watch.
Any questions please be in touch. We look forward to celebrating this wonderful milestone in your child’s education.

2020-2021 School Year: Although there are so many unknowns right now about the next school year we will be doing our best to make sure we are ready for the first day of school in September 2020. As a school we are beginning to inventory subscriptions, workbooks and materials so that we can be ready to go in the Fall. The school website also has a landing page for information regarding the next school year. You can find it by clicking here. We will be building the webpage over the next few weeks so please continue to check it for more information. Presently information in regard to ordering uniforms for next year is posted.
Paperwork: If any child is transferring from St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy for the 2020-2021 school year, most likely their records will need to be sent to their new school. Please request that as soon as possible as many schools are closed for the summer and ask for that information before the end of June. This request can be made directly to Mrs. Kenny at firstname.lastname@example.org
Class Rings/Pin for the Class of 2021: In the next few weeks we will be celebrating the graduation of the Class of 2020. As we celebrate that occasion we also look forward to the Class of 2021 with a tradition that we have here at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy a Class Ring/Pin ceremony. The class ring is a symbol of school wide pride and a reminder of their academic achievement. Please note that the Class of 2021 Ring Night scheduled for 6/1/20 is now scheduled for 10/6/20. On Tuesday June 9th at 6pm we will be hosting Pre-K information night, on Wednesday June 10th we will be hosting Nursery information night, and on Wednesday June 17th at 6pm, we will invite our incoming Kindergarten parents to join us for the Kindergarten Information Night. On all evenings, the early childhood teachers will be sharing all the details of what is in store for your children who are entering their early childhood years. Parents will be receiving supply lists and summer ideas during this meeting as well. We hope to see everyone there.
Option C Grades: Although school has moved to a distance learning approach this last trimester, teachers have been assigning, collecting, and assessing student work. As we finish the 2nd month of distance learning please if you haven’t already, log on to the parent portal of Option C to check on how your child is progressing this trimester. This is a great way to see if your child is missing any assignments. You should have already received usernames and passwords. Please contact the main office via email at email@example.com if you have any questions. As soon as the Diocese finalizes the report card for this trimester we will share with families.
Postponements and Cancelations: Just a reminder that due to the school closure and regulations from New York State in regard to bans on large crowds there will be many postponements and cancellations. Please click here for more information. It is our hope to make up many of the events in the next school year when appropriate.
We hope to announce our plans in regard to our 8th Grade Graduation in next week’s update.
