SFDS Week of September 16th 2019

Dear Families,

Another busy week comes to a close here at SFDS. Your children were hard at work this week; it was great to see everyone back in action. A special thank you to all who came out last night for our Back to School Night. Now onto the week ahead.

Catechetical Sunday:  Catechetical Sunday is when those designated to serve as catechists are called forth to be commissioned for their ministry.  Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in passing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel.  All are welcome to join the Saint Francis faculty and Saint Francis Religious Education faculty at this very special liturgy at 9am on Sunday September 15th.

Bald on the Beach: Bald on the Beach will also be held this Sunday September 15th here at St. Francis de Sales from 10:00am-1pm.

Join St. Francis de Sales Parish and our National Junior Honor Society for this special St. Baldrick’s event, and whether you decide to shave your head, volunteer, support, or donate, we hope you’ll be a part of the excitement!

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. Get involved and you’ll be giving hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers! For more information, how to donate, or sign yourself or child up to be a shavee please click here.

We hope to see many academy families at both events this Sunday.

8th Grade Graduation Meeting: Please remember the special 8th Grade Parent Graduation/High School Meeting is Monday September 16th at 6:00pm in the Small Hall. Please come to ask any last minute questions on the high school admissions process (Catholic High Schools and Public High Schools) and to have a conversation on what graduation will look like for the Class of 2020 (Graduation, Dinner Dance,  Graduation Trip, etc.)

Please note that this meeting is not in regard to planning the dinner dance, we will plan a meeting soon after the TACHS exam in early November.

Special Lunch Days Pizza Days: All pizza money and order forms should have been handed in by today. To guarantee your child getting Pizza this Thursday 9/19 (grades K-4) or Friday 9/20 (grades 5-8) the order form must be handed in no later than Monday morning. This order form will cover the 1st half of the school year. If you need an order form you can print one out by clicking here.

Just a reminder that Bagel Mondays and our monthly Chicken Finger Day begin the week of 9/23.

Lunch Duty: We are in need of some parents to help volunteering for our lunch periods. If you are VIRTUS trained and are able to do the lunch duty, we certainly appreciate it. We are continuing to assign lunch duty using a web-based service called Volunteer Spot. It enables those who want to do lunch duty to sign up for slots on specific days with email reminders. It is our hope this will help with the number of cancellations and no shows from families.

Hurricane Dorian Relief Effort:  As a community, we all know the unimaginable feeling of what it is like to go through a natural disaster, with the effects of Superstorm Sandy, that hit, right here in our own backyard.  With the help of neighbors, near and far, our community was able to find hope and get back to our lives, despite the challenges many of us faced.

Operation Kid Comfort will be collecting gift cards to assist with the Hurricane Dorian relief efforts. We are asking for gift cards such as AMEX, VISA, MasterCard, Home Depot, Target, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc. This way the gift cards can be used at many places or at stores that offer a variety of items that they will need when starting over.  We will be collecting for the month of September. The gift cards will be distributed to the Bahamas and then other areas within the US that are impacted by this storm. For more information about Operation Kid Comfort they can visit: https://www.facebook.com/OperationKidComfort/

All gift cards can be sent to the main office.

Have a great weekend! Hope to see you Sunday.
