SFDS Week of October 7th 2019

Dear Families,

And just like that, the first week of October has flown by! Another busy few days have come to an end here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. I hope each of you has a great weekend, as we rest up for what should be an exciting week at school.

Wit and Wisdom Parent Meeting: As you know St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy this year is beginning the implementation and rollout rollout of curricular and instructional materials and supports for grades K-2 English Language Arts (ELA) to maintain high levels of teaching and learning for all students. Parents are encouraged to come learn more from Mrs. Faughnan our assistant principal on Monday 10/7 at 7pm. There will be a presentation of the Wit and Wisdom/Fundations ELA curricular and instructional materials and supports, and an opportunity to ask questions.

Socktober: On Friday, 10/11, don’t forget to bring in $1 and wear CRAZY socks! A special thank you to the National Junior Honor Society for putting this event together.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser: The first fundraiser of the year is coming to an end. Please support St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy and at the same time pick up something to make your home or car smell great. Yankee Candles make an excellent gift for any occasion. Also sent home was a catalog called Believe with many items such as gift wrap and household items. Please use the separate order form and envelope if ordering from this catalog.

You can shop online as well at Yankee Candle

Click on the ‘Seller Login‘ button and fill out the ‘Signup to be a seller form‘.

Use the group number for our school 990009599.

Any questions feel free to contact the main office.

Thanks as always for supporting the school.

The sale ends on Tuesday October 8th.

Survey: In an effort to improve system practices, Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is conducting a Family Survey. We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey.

As of today we have had 66 out 345 families (6%) complete the survey. Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous. Your honest opinion is appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Please take a few moments before Tuesday October 15th to give some feedback on your experience here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.

We appreciate your time and all responses. Please note that the responses from this survey are helpful for the academy to make decisions for the future and for the Accreditation process.  Thanks again.

Enrichment Programs Starting: Just a reminder that many of our enrichment programs will begin this week.

Mad Science on October 7, Legos on October 8, Legos and Abrakadoodle on October 9 and Balanced Kidz on October 10.

Moving forward please use the school calendar to check dates and times of all enrichment program.

If you have a child who is staying after school to wait for their band lesson, please let the office know if you have yet to do so. Please do so no later than Monday October 7th by emailing the office at hendall@stfrancisschoolbh.net Thank you for your cooperation. Any questions about any of our enrichment programs please call the office.

School Sweatshirts: In the past our school has sold sweatshirts and jackets this time of the year. The company we used in the past has gone out of business. Our biggest seller every year is the hooded sweatshirt. We are placing an order for SFDS Academy Hooded Sweatshirts with a new vendor. If you would like to order a sweatshirt for your child please fill out the form below. Please note that the only sweatshirts that can be worn in school are the blue and gold sweatshirt with the Saint Francis Logo, or past sweatshirts from the Jacket sale, or the Gym Sweatshirt. No CYO sweatshirts are allowed to be worn during the day as part of the uniform.

The price of the sweatshirt is $35.00. $39.00 for 2XL and 3XL.  We have a sample in the office if you would like to see it.

Please fill out the form by October 7. This will be the last day that we take orders.  You may pay by check, cash or venmo. If you pay through Venmo please make your family’s payment to “@SFDSCACADEMY”. Please be sure to include what children (full name) and class you are making payment for in the notes section. Please note that if using Venmo your order is not complete until payment is made and order form is handed in.

Winter and Summer Uniform: Please note that starting on Tuesday October 15th, winter uniforms should be worn. If the temperature is stated to be above 75 degrees that day, summer uniforms may be worn. Please do not take advantage of this policy. 75 degrees does not mean  74 degrees, 73 degrees, etc.

Tablet Subscriptions =Technology for St. Francis: As discussed at the Back to School Night Meeting. The Diocese of Brooklyn is looking for all families to subscribe to the weekly newspaper of the Diocese “The Tablet”.

Through a special grant from DeSales Media Group these subscriptions will allow our school to receive 500 brand new chrome books/iPad to keep our school technology up to date.

Each subscription is $22 for a year. You can subscribe or renew by clicking here.

The best part is that each family that takes a subscription will get a $22 tuition credit on their FACTS account meaning that for our families this will be a free subscription.

We have had 199 families that signed up  and need another 62 families to sign up to qualify for the grant.

We do ask that all families take a subscription no later than Friday 10/11. Thanks in advance for helping us with this grant.

2020 Yearbook: We will be selling our yearbooks during the month of October as our team of 8th graders begin to work on the yearbook in the Winter of 2019-2020.

To order a yearbook please print out the following Yearbook-Order-Form and send back to school by Friday 11/1/19.

Lunch Duty:   We are in need of some parents to help volunteering for our lunch periods. If you are VIRTUS trained and are able to do the lunch duty, we certainly appreciate it. Parents we appreciate all of you signing up for Lunch Duty.

We can always use help!

Please be aware you are not guaranteed to have your child’s class every time you

As you may have noticed, Box Tops is moving to a more digital program, though there are still many products on shelves with Box Tops on them.  Keep clipping those and send them into school. In addition, if you download the Box Tops app, you can also scan that receipt for box tops. Once the receipt is scanned, fill in your child’s name and class in the field for Credit.   Stores are constantly running different promotions. For example, BJs Wholesale is running a special that if you purchase two box tops products, you will get $5.00 (that’s the equivalent to 50 box tops for your child’s class!). You do not need to scan any of your personal information provided that you have the date of purchase included in the scanned receipt.  Receipts need to be scanned within 14 days of purchase. This is such a fast, easy way to support our school.

Stop and Shop: Stop and Shop Rewards began on 9/6. Through the A+ School Rewards Program, parents and supporters can help simply by registering their Stop & Shop Card to our school’s ID number 09270 and then shopping at any Stop & Shop store. To register, go to http://stopandshop.com/aplus/register-card/ to register your card over the phone. You may select up to two (2) schools. At the end of the program our school is presented with a check. We are looking forward to another successful year of A+ SCHOOL REWARDS!
