SFDS Week of November 11th 2019

Dear Families,

Just a reminder that St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is closed on Friday  November 8th, as teachers will be gathering for a day of professional development.

St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is also closed on Monday November 11th for Veterans Day. During your rest and relaxation, let us reflect on all of the men and women who have served our amazing country in order to maintain our freedoms. We are forever indebted to them for their bravery, sacrifice, and selflessness. Happy Veterans’ Day.

Although it was a short week here at the Academy, next week has many different events and meetings to be aware of…..

8th Grade Dinner Dance Meeting: Eighth grade families are invited to join Mrs. Faughnan and myself to the first Dinner Dance meeting on Tuesday November 12th at 6pm. It’s our hope that we can decide chair people for various committees, kick off fundraising for the event, and choose the theme of the event.

The students and parents will participate in the 9:00 Mass and follow with a light breakfast in Msgr. Reddy Hall. There will be a presentation and the candidates will receive their red folders. The folders contain all the necessary forms and information for Confirmation. If anyone would like to participate in the Liturgy:  readers, gifts or ushers, please contact the Religious Education office 718-945-6911. Box Tops for Education: Congratulations to the 5th grade who were our winners of a Pizza Party for the Fall Box Tops Contest.

Final Standings

We will be starting another contest in a few weeks so keep those Box Tops close by. As you may have noticed, Box Tops is moving to a more digital program, though there are still many products on shelves with Box Tops on them.  Keep clipping those and send them into school. In addition, if you download the Box Tops app, you can also scan that receipt for box tops. Once the receipt is scanned, fill in your child’s name and class in the field for Credit.   Stores are constantly running different promotions. For example, BJs Wholesale is running a special that if you purchase two box tops products, you will get $5.00 (that’s the equivalent to 50 box tops for your child’s class!). You do not need to scan any of your personal information provided that you have the date of purchase included in the scanned receipt.  Receipts need to be scanned within 14 days of purchase. This is such a fast, easy way to support our school.

Unforgettable Fire Concert:  We are thrilled to announce that Unforgettable Fire, the longest running U2 tribute band in the world, will perform in the St. Francis de Sales Auditorium on Saturday, November 23, 2019.  Each ticket costs $40. Doors open at 7:00 pm, and there will be a cash bar serving wine, beer, soda and water. Unforgettable Fire will begin to play at 8pm. As an added bonus, DJ Mouse will perform throughout the night.

Please return the order form that can be found by clicking here, along with payment (cash, check or indicate that you have paid by Venmo) by November 12th.  If you pay by Venmo, please make your payment to @SFDSCACADEMY and include “Unforgettable Fire” in the notes section. Thank you in advance for making the Unforgettable Fire concert a huge success for St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.
