SFDS Week of May 24th 2021

Dear Academy Families,

As we begin to come into the final weeks of the 2020-2021 school year we know we have so much to look forward to in the final month. We look forward to our Class of 2021 Graduation, Early Childhood Step Up ceremonies, May Crowning, and Ring Night just to name a few.

Next week we look forward to sharing some of our students’ artwork through a Virtual Art Show. We hope that all families will take some time to watch the presentation when it premieres on Tuesday June 1st.

In this Sunday’s Psalm, we hear Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

Pentecost Sunday is a time of great hope in our faith. We remember the Disciples who are filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and sent into the world in Jesus’ name. Pentecost reminds us that we are all able to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit if we are open in our faith to the possibility. The disciples were regular people. They made mistakes, lost faith, and even lost hope after the death of Jesus yet in this great moment, they were transformed. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not given only to the saintly. They are given to ordinary men and women through Baptism and Confirmation. We all can embrace the gifts of the Holy Spirit that are given to us each day at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.

Now onto the week of May 24th here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.

2021-2022 School Year: As we come to the end of this school year we begin to share information about the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. On our website, there is a landing page for all information about the next school year (Calendar, tuition,  yellow bus, uniform, etc.) In the coming weeks, this landing page will be updated to include information on Supply Lists, summer assignments, and the first days of school.

Family Survey: In an effort to improve system practices, Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Academy is conducting a Family Survey.  We value your opinion and ask that you take the time to complete this survey. This survey is similar to the survey that was given last year before we had to switch to remote learning.

In order to complete the survey, please go to: http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/6103633

Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous.  Your honest opinion is appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Just a reminder that this survey will close on Monday 5/24.

First Communion and May Crowning: Congratulations and God bless to those scheduled to receive First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at 1:00 pm.

Just a reminder that St. Francis de Sales Parish will be having a May Crowning on Sunday 5/23 at the 10 am Mass. They would love to see those children who received Holy Communion sit in the reserved section in the front of church. We all should  be thankful for the guidance of the Blessed Mother over this past year and honor her by crowning her. The children in attendance will be asked to participate in the procession, wearing their communion outfits is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Finally, this Tuesday 5/25 at 1:30 pm is the academy’s annual May Crowning at 1:30 pm being led by our second graders. Just a reminder to all second-grade families that only two guests can attend this special prayer service. Everyone else is invited to tune into the live stream on our school website and Facebook.

Records for Next Year:  If any child is transferring from St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy for the 2021-2022 school year, most likely their records will need to be sent to their new school. Please request that as soon as possible yet no later than the end of May as many schools are closed for the summer and ask for that information before we break for summer.

Bagel Day: Just a reminder that this upcoming Monday is a bagel day for Grades 1-4 only. Grades 5-8 Bagel Day are finished for the year. We will still have one more bagel day on Monday 6/7 for Grades 1-4. Uniforms: As mentioned in the past the 2021-2022 school year will have our students in a more traditional dress uniform. Of course, it is early yet for those families looking to begin to order uniforms for next here, please click here.  It is recommended that all orders are placed no later than August 1st 2021 to make sure that uniforms are delivered for the first day of school.

2021-2022 School Year Volunteering: We anticipate that parent/family volunteers will be allowed once again in our building on a more consistent basis in the next school year. For the safety and well being of each and every child in our school, all volunteers must go through the following process:

1) Read and sign a code of conduct

2) Have a background check

3) Take part in the VIRTUS program. (Register at virtusonline.org. Download the registration guide.)

After completing the VIRTUS Program we ask that you please bring to the office a copy of your certificate for us to keep track of in our database. We hope that this is not an inconvenience for anyone, but we need to be sure that all adults who interact with students are in compliance.

Financial Aid for the 2021-2022 School Year: Futures in Education is proud to administer several scholarship programs, providing partial tuition assistance for families demonstrating financial need, and who meet eligibility requirements, to attend a Catholic academy or school in Brooklyn or Queens. To apply or get more information please click here. Just a reminder that the deadline for returning families who received an award in the previous academic year has passed. The deadline for new families (students who did not receive an award in the previous academic year) is May 31st. Applications will continue to be accepted beyond the deadline; those who have a completed application by May 31st will receive priority.

We are excited to share that awarding has started for returning families with completed applications. New families will begin to receive decision notifications as of June 1st, on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted.

Applications will only be considered completed when all required supporting documents have been submitted.  Awards will begin with applications that were completed by the deadline and will continue on a rolling basis as available funding allows.

Have a great week. Be safe and stay healthy.
