SFDS Week of May 10th 2021

Dear Academy Families,

In this Sunday’s reading we hear “ Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God.”1 John 4:7  The verse from Sunday’s reading emphasizes the need to love one another without qualification or judgment. The ultimate example of love, aside from the great love of God, is the love a mother (or mother figure) has for a child. When we think of a mother’s love, we think of Mary who is the perfect example of unconditional love for her child. As a mother, she walked the difficult journey of knowing the suffering and challenges that lay ahead for Jesus as the Son of God. Her great love for Jesus and for God allowed her to maintain the strength and faith needed to raise Jesus as God intended. This weekend let’s take a moment to give thanks to all the mothers and mother figures in our lives and wish them a Happy Mother’s Day!

Second, this weekend our second graders continue to receive their special sacrament at St. Francis de Sales Parish. They’ve worked and prayed all year in preparation for their First Holy Communion. These students will be followed on May 22nd by students receiving the sacrament at St. Francis de Sales Parish. We continue to keep them in our prayers for this very special and important moment in their life. A very special thank you to both Mrs. O’Malley and Mrs. Cronin along with Mrs. Marquadt and Mrs. Beehler for preparing the children for this special day.  We also look forward to our annual crowning of Mary on Tuesday, May 25th which is led by our 2nd graders.

Now onto the week of May 10th here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.

Blue and Gold Day: This week we plan on holding our annual Blue and Gold Day. Grades K-4 are scheduled on Wednesday 5/12, Pre-K is scheduled on Thursday 5/13 and Grades 5-8 are scheduled on Friday 5/14. Please note that we do have a rain date of Friday 5/21 in case either day has inclement weather. This event is for students only. Please note that parents are not able to watch this year’s event, no exceptions can be made as we usually have over 500 parents attend this event each year which would be in excess of what is allowed at this time. The students may dress down in the color of their team. Just a reminder as in years past no student should have any face paint or colored hair for this event. Each student will be provided with a special SFDS 2021 Blue and Gold Mask to wear for the day. We do ask for your cooperation with these directives so that we can keep this tradition going for the students of our school.

Ascension Thursday: Forty Days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Acts of the Apostles records Jesus’ ascension into heaven.  In the Roman Catholic Church, it is one of the universally celebrated feasts, ranking with the feasts of the Passion, of Easter, and Pentecost. The Academy community will gather at 11 am to celebrate this liturgy.  Our 5th and 6th graders will be attending this mass in person. Families are invited to join the rest of the Academy to participate in this special mass via the school website and the school Facebook page.

Math State Exam Update: . The Mathematics exam for grades 3 through 8 will be multiple choice only. The test will be one day only and session 1 will be shortened by eliminating the field questions. We will continue Computer Based Testing for grades 6 and 7 this year. The computer-based test will have the same questions as the paper version but students will take the test on their Chromebooks. All we ask is that our students are focused and we know everyone will give their very best.

The Math state exam is scheduled as follows

Monday May 10th -Grade 7

Tuesday May 11th – Grade 6

Please make sure that your children get a good night’s sleep, have their Chromebook fully charged (Grades 6 and 7), a calculator in Grade 7, and are well rested the night before.

Records for Next Year:  If any child is transferring from St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy for the 2021-2022 school year, most likely their records will need to be sent to their new school. Please request that as soon as possible yet no later than the end of May as many schools are closed for the summer and ask for that information before we break for summer.

Tuition: Just a reminder that in two weeks on Monday 5/17 the final tuition payment is due for the 2020-2021 school year.  We do ask that all tuition arrears are settled over the next few weeks. We will continue the payment schedule of tuition for the 2021-2022 school year from August 2021-May 2022. Any tuition questions please contact our bookkeeper Marguerite Kazalski at mkazalski@stfrancisschoolbh.net

To apply or get more information please click here. Just a reminder that the deadline for returning families who received an award in the previous academic year has passed. The deadline for new families (students who did not receive an award in the previous academic year) is May 31st. Applications will continue to be accepted beyond the deadline; those who have a completed application by May 31st will receive priority.

We are excited to share that awarding has started for returning families with completed applications. New families will begin to receive decision notifications as of June 1st, on a rolling basis until funding is exhausted.

Applications will only be considered completed when all required supporting documents have been submitted.  Awards will begin with applications that were completed by the deadline and will continue on a rolling basis as available funding allows.
