This weekend is the big event! The cast and crew of Seussical Jr. have worked tirelessly to put on three fantastic shows on Saturday June 1 and Sunday June 2. We are beyond excited to see our inaugural Performing Arts Club play unfold! To our director, Ms. Mangano, and the amazing cast and stage crew: break a leg! You are going to do great!
More good luck wishes are in order for our students in grades 5-7 who will be using this weekend to finish up their studying for next week’s finals. We know they will do the best they can.
On to what is going on this week at St. Francis…
Science State Exam: On Monday June 3rd, both grades 4 and 8 will be taking the written New York State Science exam. We encourage each child to eat a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s sleep the night before.
Class of 2020 Ring/Pin Service: The Class of 2020 (7th graders) will receive their class rings and pins in St. Francis de Sales Church on Tuesday 6/4 at 7pm. A small reception will follow in the Small Hall. All 7th graders are asked to report to the Small Hall at 6:30pm.
Early Childhood Information Nights: On Monday June 3rd at 6pm, we will be hosting Nursery and Pre-K information night, and on Wednesday June 5th at 6pm, we will invite our incoming Kindergarten parents to join us for the Kindergarten Information Night. On both evenings, the early childhood teachers will be sharing all the details of what is in store for your children who are entering their early childhood years. Parents will be receiving supply lists and summer ideas during this meeting as well. We hope to see everyone there.
Uniform Measurement Day: On Friday June 7th, Flynn & O’Hara will be here at St. Francis to measure students for next year’s uniform. Order forms have been sent out and are available on our website by clicking here.
Art Show: Please join us on June 5th at 6pm for our 3rd annual Art Show! Ms. Mangano and our students have worked tirelessly in preparation for a truly superb art gallery display. We hope to see many of you there. To get a sneak peak of some of our students artwork please click here to see our digital art gallery.
½ Day: We will be having a 12n dismissal on Friday June 7th. Students may dress down on this day but please be mindful that no sandals, flip flops, short shorts, tank tops, sleeveless jerseys, etc. will be allowed. Please remind your children when they leave on Friday as we want to avoid having a child call home to have a change of clothes delivered before they can go up to class.
Beach Parties: As we come to the home stretch of the 2018/2019 school year, I know everyone is looking forward to our end of the year beach parties. Please follow the directives that were given out by the classroom teacher and class captains in earlier correspondences.
Class of 2019 Graduation Mass and Dinner Dance: On Friday June 7th, the 8th grade will kick off their final graduation exercises with a Mass of Thanksgiving and Dinner Dance at 6pm. A separate email was sent to 8th grade families with all final details earlier this week. Please feel free to be in touch with any questions.
Special Lunch Days: Monday (6/10) is the last bagel day of the school year. Thanks again to all the parents that come on a weekly basis for helping coordinate this special lunch. This Thursday 6/6 is also our last pizza day for Grades K-4. Grades 5-7 will have their last pizza day on 6/14.
Catholic Grandparents Association: St. Francis de Sales Parish is starting a new ministry the Catholic Grandparents Association. The first meeting will be Monday 6/10 at 7pm. Being a Grandparent is a joyous and noble vocation. In 2013, the role of Grandparents was clarified in the Catholic Church to the CGA by the Pontifical Council for the Family as “Preeminent Collaborators” in the upbringing and instruction of their Grandchildren. It is an increasingly important role and status of Grandparents, helping them to work together with their children to seek out the very best for our grandchildren. The Catholic Grandparents Association (CGA) exists to promote the awareness of the vocation of Grandparents and to support and value them in their great task of passing on the faith, not an easy job in this day and age! The world today is much different from the one many Grandparents grew up in. Grandparents instinctively understand the great human, moral and spiritual challenges children face today in the world in which they are growing up. For many children today, their Grandparents may be the only practicing Catholic members of their family. However, even those children growing up with the blessing of devout Catholic parents must grow to maturity in a highly secularised world which radically competes for their hearts and minds and denies the need for God.
This year St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy has a goal of raising $150,000 throughout the school year. We are happy to say we are well on our way of meeting our goal and have already raised over $138,000. Thanks again to all who make that event such a success each year.

Please join us for a fundraising planning meeting for the 2019-2020 school year on Wednesday June 12th at 7pm.
Box Tops for Education: The last contest of the year is officially ending on June 5th. It’s not too late to help your class win that ice cream party! Please make sure your child’s name and class is on the submission so that the correct class can be credited.
The standings are as follows
PS: We are always in need of some parents to help volunteering for our lunch periods. If you are VIRTUS trained and are able to do the lunch duty, we certainly appreciate it. We are continuing to assign lunch duty using a web-based service called Sign Up. It enables those who want to do lunch duty to sign up for slots on specific days with email reminders. It is our hope this will help with the number of cancellations and no shows from families.
To sign up for lunch duty please use the website: Lunch Duty Sign Up
