SFDS Week of January 20th 2020

Dear Families,

Happy Feast Day!

Next Friday 1/24 is the Feast Day of our Patron Saint: Saint Francis de Sales.

Born in France in 1567, Francis was a patient man. He knew for thirteen years that he had a vocation to the priesthood before he mentioned it to his family. When his father said that he wanted Francis to be a soldier and sent him to Paris to study, Francis said nothing. Then when he went to Padua to get a doctorate in law, he still kept quiet, but he studied theology and practiced mental prayer while getting into swordfights and going to parties. Even when his bishop told him if he wanted to be a priest that he thought that he would have a miter waiting for him someday, Francis uttered not a word. Why did Francis wait so long? Throughout his life he waited for God’s will to be clear. He never wanted to push his wishes on God, to the point where most of us would have been afraid that God would give up!

This weekend, we ask St. Francis de Sales to pray for us. Onto the rest of the week here at the Academy…

Just a reminder that tomorrow 1/17 kicks off a 4-day weekend with a day off for students as the faculty participates in a Diocesan wide professional development data day.  In recent tradition, it has been a day for our staff to look at and dig through school data (Terranova, state exams, classroom exams, etc.) This year we are going to deviate and have a focus on school safety. In June, I had the chance to attend an active shooter training from a team of law enforcement individuals out of Boston. Tomorrow this team will be coming to St. Francis to do a similar training/discussion with our teachers. Monday 1/21, St Francis de Sales Catholic Academy will be closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. School will reopen on Tuesday 1/22. Enjoy the long weekend!

First Penance: Good luck to our Saint Francis second graders who will be receiving first Penance on Wednesday 1/22 at 6:30pm.

We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers as you continue on your spiritual journey and prepare for receiving the Eucharist for the first time. A special thank you to Mrs. Cronin and Mrs. O’Malley along with Mrs. Greene for preparing the children for this sacrament.

St. Jude’s Math-a-thon: It is that time of year that St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy participates in St. Jude’s Math-A-Thon program.  Last year we raised over $20,000. A lot of children are helped by the generosity of our school community. This year you can do your donations online and order your prizes online and have them delivered to your door or you can send in your donations to Mrs. Foti and she will take care of the paperwork and get the prizes sent to the school.

Important dates

On 1/21 Permission slips are given out in school and are due back by 1/24.  Math A Thon books will be given out as permission slips are handed in.

All Money is due by 2/13. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity to children in need.  Any questions, please contact Mrs. Foti at sfoti@stfrancisschoolbh.net .
