SFDS Week of January 11th 2021

Dear Academy Families,

Today at mass we celebrate the Baptism of Jesus when the season of Christmas officially ends. Then we move on to the next phase in the liturgical year, which is called “Ordinary Time.”  Ordinary Time is in fact the ordered life of the Church—the period in which we live our lives neither in feasting (as in the Christmas and Easter seasons) or in more severe penance (as in Advent and Lent), but in watchfulness and expectation of the Second Coming of Christ.  In this season of endings as well as of new beginnings, we are assured of God’s ever-abiding presence. He remains to guide and protect us.

Let us today pray for a wonderful new year and a great 2nd half of our school year.

Prayer for the Baptism of Our Lord

Open the heavens almighty Father and pour out Your Spirit upon Your people.  Renew the power of our baptismal cleansing and fill us with zeal for good deeds. Let us hear Your voice once again, that we may recognize in Your beloved Son our hope in inheriting eternal life. Grant this through Jesus Christ, Your Word made flesh, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, in the splendor of eternal light, God forever and ever. Amen.

As soon as the school is notified, we will forward a welcome letter so that you can create a My Schools account. Once that account is created you will have two types of schools (General High Schools and Specialized High Schools) that your child can apply to.

I-Ready Diagnostic Test (Week of 1/25): All students in Kindergarten-8th grade your child will be asked to take the second round of the diagnostic test during the week of January 25th. Students will complete both the i-Ready Math Diagnostic and the Language Arts i-Ready Diagnostic. This will be the second time that the students are taking the diagnostic test and we look forward to sharing their results with you once we have completed the test for all students.

For those who are not sure i-Ready is an online program for reading and mathematics that will help your student’s teacher determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows your child’s teacher to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains

Learn more about i-Ready by watching this video!

How can parents help their child prepare for an iReady assessment?

Your child’s teacher administering the assessment uses pre-assessment instructions to explain the assessment to students. It is important for parents to encourage their children to try their best on the assessment. Since iReady is a general measure of student ability in mathematics, students perform best on the assessment in the same way they perform best in school—when they have had plenty of rest, attend school regularly, and have eaten.

Stay tuned for next week’s email blast for more information.
