SFDS Week of December 17th 2018

Dear Families,

Nativity scenes usually show Mary and Joseph calmly kneeling beside Jesus’s crib surrounded by adoring shepherds and tame animals. Mary and Joseph travelled in the last stages of her pregnancy from Nazareth to Bethlehem, a trip that took a few days to a week of straight travel.  On foot or by donkey, it was an exhausting journey. Once there, they could not find room at an inn and had to lay the newborn in a manger. After a short time, the family fled from Israel to Egypt to escape danger.

The Holy Family had its share of pain and difficulties, much like our own experience.  Yet scripture tells us that Mary and Joseph found strength from their faith in God and were guided by His word.  We can do the same. We tell our children that Jesus’ birth and the Holy Family’s escape to Egypt is further proof that God keeps His promises.  When we lean on Him, God promises to lead us to safety…

The entire St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy Faculty and Staff join me in wishing God’s light, love, and peace to each of our school families. May the love and peace that was born that night be with you throughout the Christmas season.

On to the week ahead…

Christmas Show: Please refer to the email that preceded this email today about all final instructions for the show.

Dress Rehearsals: All students should be ready in costume on Monday 12/17 (B Classess) and on Tuesday 12/18 (A and C Classes) for our dress rehearsal. Some students just need to dress up while others have a costume. Children may wear there gym uniform or dress down clothes under their costume on the day of their dress rehearsal.

Any questions please feel free to get in touch.

The dress rehearsals serves as a chance for elderly relatives who are unable to come out at night or handle a large crowd to see the show. The rehearsals will begin at 12:45pm. This dress rehearsals do not serve as a way to get a sneak peek or another viewing of the show. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

PS: We are always in need of some parents to help volunteering for our lunch periods. If you are VIRTUS trained and are able to do the lunch duty, we certainly appreciate it. We are continuing to assign lunch duty using a web-based service called Sign Up. It enables those who want to do lunch duty to sign up for slots on specific days with email reminders. It is our hope this will help with the number of cancellations and no shows from families.
