Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
It’s hard to believe that we are officially in Trimester 3. The year continues to fly by! Second trimester report card conferences are scheduled for this Thursday March 23th 2017. These conversations are one of the best ways to provide information on how your child is doing in school. Sharing information about your child’s progress enables us to effectively bridge school and home, as we are always mindful of meeting the academic needs of your child.
Please join us for the afternoon session from 12:45pm-2:45pm or the evening session from 6:00pm-7:30pm. (Nursery families please follow the schedule sent home from Mrs. O’Malley. Just a reminder that all accounts have to be up to date to receive your child(ren)’s report card.

Card Party: We are now less than 2 weeks away from our annual Card Party.
You may know that St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy’s Card Party is considered a premier Card Party in the area, and helps raise thousands of dollars for the school each year. Over the past few weeks Class Captains have been reaching out to parents to help create grade baskets to be raffled off at the Card Party. Starting on Monday March 20th, Card Party tickets will be on sale please look in your child’s folder and return promptly as tickets sell out quickly.
One of biggest prizes of the annual Card Party is the Tuition Raffle for one student for the 2017-2018 school year. Please think about supporting this raffle and get a chance of winning a free tuition for one child. (Winner need not be present). Tickets can be bought in the main office or by handing in tickets found on the order from by clicking here.
Bake Sale 8th Grade: A special thank you to the 8th grade who on Sunday 3/12 held a bake sale after masses at St. Francis. The sale was a great success. Thanks to all who supported.
VIRTUS Workshop: Sister Pat Hudson will offer the VIRTUS WORKSHOP on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. in St. Camillus Springman Hall (180 Beach 100 Street). Pre Registration is required. Please call Mary Kay Flynn at 718-634-8229. Please remember to volunteer in our school (lunch duty, chaperone field trips, etc) you need to be VIRTUS trained and have a background check.
Radio Bingo: Please join us for a fun night of Radio Bingo, country style next Friday March 24th at 7pm at the Rockaway Council 2872. This great fundraiser will support revamping the SMART Boards throughout our building. For more information on how to buy tickets to the event, click here. This is an adults-only event.
Dress Down Friday: Next Friday we are having a $1.00 Dress Down to help support the New York City Hemophilia Chapter (NYCHC). NYCHC provides a range of programs and events that foster a sense of community amongst affected families through the sharing of experiences and mutual support. NYCHC also provides families with information and education, and supports and advocates for access to quality medical care, better treatments, and ultimately a cure.
Summer Uniform: Starting on Monday May 8th students can begin to wear their summer uniforms. This is just a reminder if anyone needs to purchase summer uniforms you should think of ordering them soon.
Save the Date: June 14th 2017 Flynn and O’Hara will be at school to measure students for their uniforms for the 2017-2018 school year.
St. Jude Math-A-Thon: All permission slips and booklets have been handed out to students who are looking to participate in this year’s Math-A-Thon. All money raised goes directly to supporting St. Jude and their work with children with pediatric cancer. For several years, we have a been a top 100 school in fundraising across the country. We hope to continue to our great work for this year as well. To register and donate online, click here. All who donate will be able to dress down on Friday April 7th.
Honor Band: Congratulations to Mark M, Claire M, and Juliann B all for being selected to join the New York City Catholic School Honor Band Concert. These students will perform at St. John’s Prep on April 2nd. The New York City Catholic School Honor Band represents the “best of the best” from all the Catholic School in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Archdiocese of NY.
Spring Concert: Members of the Paul Effman Band, please save the date! Tuesday May 23rd at 7pm is our fourth annual St Francis de Sales School Band Spring Concert.
2nd Grade Communion Parent Meeting: This Monday parents of those students who are receiving First Communion at SFDS are asked to attend a parent meeting with Mrs. Greene (Director of Religious Education of SFDS) at 7pm. Any questions please call the Religious Education Office at 718-945-6911.
7th Grade Proximate Prep Meeting: This Wednesday 3/22 there is a proximate prep meeting for those 7th graders and their parents who are expecting to receive Confirmation at SFDS next Fall. The meeting begins at 6:30pm. Any questions please call the Religious Education Office at 718-945-6911.
Lunch Duty: If you are VIRTUS trained and are able to do the lunch duty, we certainly appreciate it.
