SFDS Week of January 15th 2018

Dear Families,

Just a reminder that  tomorrow 1/12 kicks off a 4-day weekend with a day off for students as the faculty participates in a Diocesan wide professional development data day.  This Monday January 15th, St Francis de Sales Catholic Academy will be closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. School will reopen on Tuesday January 17th. Enjoy the long weekend!

Now onto the rest of the week.

Re-Registration: This Tuesday re-registration packets were sent home with one child in the family. Please be sure to send back the envelope with the necessary documents and re-registration fee ($75.00) no later than Friday January 26th.

8th Grade: Congratulations to our 8th grade on receiving your High School decision letters! We are very proud of all of the accomplishments of our Class of 2018. If parents have any questions, feel free to get in touch with Mr. Scharbach cscharbach@stfrancisschoolbh.net or Mrs. Martello rmartello@stfrancisschoolbh.net.

Coffee with the Principal: Please join us for our Coffee with the Principal meetings over the next two weeks. The evening session will be held on Thursday January 25th at 6pm, and the morning session will be held on Friday January 19th at 9:30am. We will be discussing various topics including TerraNova results, technology in the classroom, and upcoming events at the school.

Student Illness: After we return from this 4-day weekend we will be in the heart of winter. Many times we see more and more children who become ill. A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff. If your child is ill, before sending them back to school please clear it with your child’s pediatrician. Please call the school’s nurse or main office if you have any questions or concerns. Please note we do our best to sanitize the building (doorknobs, bathrooms, desks, etc ) on a daily basis.

If your child is absent due to illness please send your child in when they return with an absent note. A sample note can be found by clicking here.

If your child returns without a note, they are than marked illegally absent until a note is received by the classroom teacher.

School Yard: Although our school yard acts as a parking lot during the day, please understand that no parents should be moving their cars while students are outside at recess. Teachers have been instructed by the Administration to enforce this at recess time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Option C Parent Portal: We are now at the halfway point of the 2nd trimester. If you haven’t already, log on to the parent portal of Option C to check on how your child is progressing this trimester. This is a great way to see if your child is missing any assignments. You should have already received usernames and passwords. Please contact the main office via email admin@stfrancisschoolbh.net if you have any questions.

Lunch Forms: Last week various Lunch Forms went  home for February-June.

Pizza Forms (Thursdays for Grades K-4 and Fridays for Grades 5-8) are due 1/19

Bagel Forms (Mondays for Grades K-8) are due 1/22

Chicken Finger Forms (Last Tuesday of every month for Grades 1-8) are due 1/19

For anyone who needs a form please click here. Please when ordering both Chicken Fingers, Pizza and Bagels make seperate checks out.

Any questions please call the main office.

First Penance: Good luck to our Saint Francis second graders who will be receiving first Penance on Wednesday 1/17 at 6:30pm.

Please remember that only the child and two adults are invited to the service. With over 100 students receiving the sacrament space is very limited. Any questions about the service please contact the SFDS Religious education office  at 718-945-6911.

We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers as you continue on your spiritual journey and prepare for receiving the Eucharist for the first time.

Lunch Duty:   We are in need of some parents to help volunteering for our lunch periods. If you are VIRTUS trained and are able to do the lunch duty, we certainly appreciate it. We are continuing to assign lunch duty using a web-based service called Sign Up. It enables those who want to do lunch duty to sign up for slots on specific days with email reminders. It is our hope this will help with the number of cancellations and no shows from families.

To sign up for lunch duty please use the website: Lunch Duty Sign Up

1) Click the link above to see our Sign-Up on Sign Up

2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.

3) Sign up! It’s Easy – you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on Sign Up Volunteers, thank you so much for all of your help!

Enrichment Programs: Continuing with Schoolhouse Chess this week we are starting our second round of enrichment programs here at St. Francis de Sales. Flyers have been sent home for various enrichment programs over the past month and can be found on our website or by clicking here. Any questions please contact the main office at 718-634-2775.

Virtus Training: Many parents have been looking for opportunities to go to a VIRTUS training in the community. On Thursday 1/18 there will be a VIRTUS training here at St. Francis de Sales at 6:30pm. For more information and how to register feel free to visit www.VIRTUS.org or call the religious education office at 718-945-6911..
