Happy Easter! The days of Lent and the winter weather are now gone and we look forward to warmer days and the new life that the Risen Lord has brought us. It is unbelievable that in two weeks we begin the month of May, and will be in the home stretch of the 2016- 2017 school year.
During this time of year many events have been planned; the celebration of the sacrament of the First Eucharist, Grade 7 Ring/Pin celebration, band recital, Graduation, just to name a few…. It is a joyful time to be around Saint Francis! At the same time, it is tempting to get into the summer mindset prematurely. We still have a lot to accomplish! Please remind your children that the hard work of being a student does not decrease when the temperature increases. Also, the high expectations of respect in our interactions with each other knows no season, takes no holiday.
Now onto the week of April 24th here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy
Golf Outing: On Thursday April 27th we will be having our Annual Golf Classic held at the Hempstead Golf and Country Club.
Please consider taking a hole sponsorship with your family name displayed or a special cause or business you may wish to advertise. A beautiful sign will be displayed on a given golf hole or two displaying your support for our great school. More details are in the brochure. This is truly appreciated.
Lastly, please jump in on a great day on the golf course where we enjoy fellow neighbors & friends for a full day of golf followed up by great eats and drinks on the course & post-golf dinner. Put your foursomes together as soon as possible to help secure a successful fundraiser and your foursome on this truly special day. Anyone may drop off monies at the rectory as well. Thank You.
The success of this day, April 27th, requires all of us even if you do not golf. As we rely on fundraisers such as the Annual Golf Classic to help support the education and growth of our students here at St. Francis de Sales. Spring Book Fair: The Book Fair is coming back! Each class will have a scheduled time to visit the Fair (please see attached) in the School Gym throughout the 3 days it will be here: April 25-27th. But you don’t have to wait until then to get ahead of your shopping! Our Online Sale will be open and ready for business beginning on April 20th. You can find our Online Book Fair by clicking here. Thanks to all our book Fair volunteers for their help, especially our Coordinator, Mrs. Rita Martin.
Holocaust Remembrance Day: On Monday April 24th, our 5th through 8th graders will be participating in a Holocaust Remembrance Day through an online field trip, hosted by the Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County.
Coffee with the Principal Rescheduled: Due to a Parish event in Fr. Reddy Hall on Friday April 7th, Coffee with the Principal scheduled for that day had to be moved to Friday April 28th at 9:30am. I hope we will have a good crowd to discuss some upcoming events and exciting initiatives here at the academy.
Dress Down Day for Chocolate Sale: Any student who participated in the World’s Finest Chocolate Sale are invited to dress down on Friday April 28th. Students who can dress down will receive a No Uniform Today pass from their homeroom teacher when we return from break.
6th Grade Trip: The 6th Grade will be seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Broadway on Wednesday April 26th. Students, teachers, and chaperones will be leaving school by bus at 11a and should be returning by 5p.
Pop Hop Volunteer: We are very excited for our 2nd Annual Pop Hop on Friday May 19th. Mrs. Moriarty and Mrs. Shaw, our Pop Hop coordinators, have already begun the planning process. If any mom is interested in volunteering, please reach out to Mrs. Shaw at email@example.com
Box Tops: We will be starting our last contest when we return from Easter break. This last contest is a group contest. The grade that brings in the most Box Tops between now and May 31st will receive an ice cream party toward the end of the year. A special thank you to Mrs. Henning for coordinating our box top fundraiser this year.
Summer Uniform: Starting on Monday May 8th students can begin to wear their summer uniforms. This is just a reminder if anyone needs to purchase summer uniforms you should think of ordering them soon. Also please note that students may wear their summer uniform any day the temperature is above 75 degrees (Click here to check weather)
Save the Date: June 14th 2017 Flynn and O’Hara will be at school to measure students for their uniforms for the 2017-2018 school year.
Spring Fling: On Friday May 12th we will be hosting our last dance of the year for our 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Tickets are $10, and no tickets will be sold at the door.
Spring Concert: Members of the Paul Effman Band, please save the date! Tuesday May 23rd at 7pm is our fourth annual St Francis de Sales School Band Spring Concert.
St. Vincent de Paul: As we are now officially into the third trimester, please remember that the 6th, 7th and 8th grade are asked to complete 10, 15, and 20 service hours respectively before the end of each school year. Students must complete a log and reflection, and submit both to Mrs. Martello for approval in order to meet the requirement.
