SFDS Week April 19th

Dear Academy Families,

In this Sunday’s reading from the Letter of Saint John we hear “But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is truly perfected in him” 1 Jn 2:1-5a

This verse highlights the significance of keeping God’s word. It is vital that we do not keep the word in voice only. Our actions must also be those of love. Through our love of others, we are giving the love of God. The greatest honor to God’s love for us is to in turn provide that same love to others. Children who receive a Catholic education are more likely to be accepting of others and embrace differences. The concept of loving others as God loves us translates into accepting, empathetic adults. We continue to Thank God for the Gift of a Catholic Education.

This week the administration had a meeting with the Diocese and also attended a meeting with the State Health Department about some of the new health guidelines in regard to distancing within our classrooms. We are hopeful that in the near future we will be able to have more of our students daily in our junior high classrooms (Grades 5-8). Please note that our number one priority at this time is getting our junior high students to be in school much like their younger peers as much as possible. We will continue to try as much as possible this school year to bring everyone back to a normal school situation, yet some grade levels may not look fully normal until the Fall. We hope by the end of next week to update families for the week of April 26th or May 3rd. Although some distancing guidelines may be changing all other health guidelines such as wearing masks, washing hands, deep cleaning of the building each night, ventilation, limiting visitors, etc. will stay in place.

Now onto the week of April 19th here at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy.

ELA State Exam Update: This year, the ELA and Mathematics exams for grades 3 through 8 will be multiple choice only. The test will be one day only and session 1 will be shortened by eliminating the field questions. We will continue Computer Based Testing for grades 6 and 7 this year, while 4th grade will continue to take paper-based tests. The computer-based test will have the same questions as the paper version but students will take the test on their Chromebooks. All we ask is that our students are focused and we know everyone will give their very best.

Grades 4,6, and 7 ELA and Math Exams will be one day of testing rather than the usual two. The ELA state exam is scheduled as follows

Wednesday April 21st – Grade 4

Monday April 26th -Grades 6 and 7 (Groups 1 and 3)

Tuesday April 27th – Grades 6 and 7 (Group 2)
