I wanted all to know of a few staff changes that have occurred over the past few weeks. You may have heard that we are saying farewell to Ms. Eileen Scahill (7th and 8th Grade Social Studies), who is moving to a public school next year on the Upper West Side and to Mrs. Kim Thompson (Pre-K), who is leaving us this year as well. While we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors, we certainly will miss them here at St. Francis.
I’d like to welcome some new staff members to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. We welcome:
- Michele Surgot who will be one of our 1st grade teachers, Mrs. Surgot comes to us from St. Francis Xavier School and has been a dedicated Catholic School educator for over 10 years.

On the day the student returns to school, the child must submit a note from a parent stating the days absent and the reason for the absence. New York State requires that these notes be kept on file for a period of five years.
Families are encouraged to schedule vacation days in accordance with the school calendar. This includes leaving early on a school day. Please note that vacations are illegal absences. It is the responsibility of the child to make up assignments, projects and tests missed during any absence due to a vacation. Please note the more than 20 days absent not due to an illness could result in your child not being promoted to the next grade level.
Regarding Lateness: Students who arrive at school late will receive a late pass. Those students in grades 5-8 who are late three times in a trimester will be given detention. Lateness for a valid reason (such as a doctor’s visit) must be verified by submission of a doctor’s office or parent note when the child arrives at school.
