SFDS Summer Update-July 25th 2018

Dear Families,

We hope you have had a great summer so far!

This promises to be a year filled with opportunities for all of our students as we strive to find ways that we can be even better than we have before!  We embark on this journey that this will be a year of engaging, meaningful and rigorous work in our classrooms, combined with special events and activities, certain to encourage our students to be involved and stay connected! Our staff of highly qualified professional educators and support personnel is committed to providing our students many opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the new families who have joined our Academy community, and say welcome back to all who are already part of our Saint Francis family.  We have much to celebrate and look forward to this school year…

Attendance and Lateness Policy

Regarding Absence: If a student is absent from school, parents are expected to call or use the report an absence section on the school website the school before 9 a.m. to report the absence.  On the day the student returns to school, the child must submit a note from a parent stating the days absent and the reason for the absence.  New York State requires that these notes be kept on file for a period of five years.

Regarding Lateness:  Students who arrive at school late will receive a late pass. Those students in grades 5-8 who are late three times in a trimester will be given detention.   Lateness for a valid reason (such as a doctor’s visit) must be verified by submission of a doctor’s office or parent note when the child arrives at school.

St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy continues to be a peanut/nut free school. Peanut and nut allergies are potentially life threatening for some of our children.  All students are asked to bring snacks and lunches free of any peanuts or nuts, including no peanut butter sandwiches, crackers or cookies.  Please read the labels of foods such as muffins, granola bars and cereals before you put them in your child’s lunch box.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

As your family visits new places, send the school a postcard to share your experiences! This will give the students a fun opportunity to work on their writing skills over the summer. When we return back to school in September, your postcards will be displayed in the school. We look forward to hearing from you over the summer!

Hold the date….

Saint Francis de Sales will be hosting Back to School Night (Grades K-8) on Thursday,

September 13th 2018 at 7:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers and see the world your child inhabits every day.  It is one of the best ways to begin to build that all-important home-school connection.  A detailed correspondence including the meeting agenda will be sent out the first week of school.

We look forward to a very productive year together!  We extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible. Please know that we highly value home/school communication here at St. Francis.  It is vital and plays an integral role in each student’s success.  We encourage you to contact us if/when the need arises, and to stay in the know about your child’s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings.

Here’s to a great new school year as we work together to make our school a great place to work and learn each day!

Sincerely in Christ,

Christopher Scharbach
