In Wit and Wisdom we are in the 4th module. We are skipping module 3 and if time allows at the end of the year we will go back to it! Module 4 has a high interest level as it deals with Cinderella! We will read versions of Cinderella from different cultures! Some examples are “A Caribbean Cinderella” and “The Korean Cinderella”!!! Looking forward to it! Last week we had a “Book Tasting.” The children worked in groups and were presented with a “menu” which listed all the books that we will be reading in this module. They had to decide if each book fell into these categories: “can’t wait to read” or “don’t know” or “not for me.” Should be fun following Cinderella around the world and answering the Essential Question “Why do people admire Cinderella?”
In Fundations we continue to work on Unit 10. Please do all activities in the packet to help support our work in class.
In Math we will be having a test on Tuesday on Chapter 7 and then will start Chapter 8 working with 2-digit numbers!!
In Religion we are working in our Stations of the Cross coloring book as we continue to walk the journey with Christ during this season of Lent. We will also be learning more about the Sacrament of Baptism. A project will be sent home this week. Please look for a photo from your child’s Baptism as this will be part of the cover of the report!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone for report card conferences, which are coming up. Please remember to sign-up for a time slot via the school website.

Hope everyone had a nice vacation whether you stayed local or went away! Looking forward to a great week in Class 1-A! In Wit and Wisdom we will be reading a new book called Never Smile at a Monkey by Steve Jenkins! We will be concentrating on the Focusing Question which is How do animals use their unique features in unexpected ways? In Fundations we will continue in Unit 9. The children will learn about closed words. As explained in the packet I sent home a closed syllable has one short vowel and it is “closed” by one or more than one consonant. Examples are “bat” and “bath.” Please practice the activities suggested in the packet especially if your child is still having difficulty with fundations tests.
In Math we will review Chapter 6 in the packet on Monday and will have that test on Wednesday. We will also begin Chapter 7. Anyone absent please be ready to take all exams upon return.
In Religion we will be working in Chapters 15 and 16. But we will also be talking about the season of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday.
So Tuesday has now turned into a very busy day!!! We are celebrating the 100th day! The children are hopefully decorating their tee shirts with 100 things or a 100th day slogan. Something fun and creative for our celebration.

Wit and Wisdom. We will be starting a new story called Sea Horse: The Shyest Fish in the Sea. If you have any books at home on the subject of seahorses they are always appreciated. Just like Jane Goodall we enjoyed the books and the stuffed animals. So please feel free to send in either books or stuffed seahorses.
In Fundations we will be reviewing the glued sounds and will have a Unit 7 Test this week. The glued sounds are words with ng such as song and words with nk such as bank. We will also add the suffix “s” to these words such as songs and banks.
In Math we will be finishing Chapter 5 this week and will have a test on Friday. In Religion we will be completing Chapters 11 and 12 and will have a test this week. Sheets will come home in both subjects to help you get ready for both test.
Now that we are in the 2nd Trimester we will be devoting more time to Science and Social Studies. We spent a lot of time last week talking about MLK. We read books, watched videos and assigned homework—even to the parents which the children loved!!! We had many class discussions on the rug at story time. So this week we will have a Social Studies Test on MLK. You will see a review sheet in their folder.
