Just like Jane Goodall we enjoyed the books and the stuffed animals. So please feel free to send in either books or stuffed seahorses.
In Fundations we will be reviewing the glued sounds and will have a Unit 7 Test this week. The glued sounds are words with ng such as song and words with nk such as bank. We will also add the suffix “s” to these words such as songs and banks.
In Math we will be finishing Chapter 5 this week and will have a test on Friday. In Religion we will be completing Chapters 11 and 12 and will have a test this week. Sheets will come home in both subjects to help you get ready for both test.
Now that we are in the 2nd Trimester we will be devoting more time to Science and Social Studies. We spent a lot of time last week talking about MLK. We read books, watched videos and assigned homework—even to the parents which the children loved!!! We had many class discussions on the rug at story time. So this week we will have a Social Studies Test on MLK. You will see a review sheet in their folder.

In Wit and Wisdom :We will continue reading about Jane Goodall! The class has certainly enjoyed learning about Jane! Please feel free to send in books or jungle stuffed animals this week, as we continue to learn about Jane. We will also continue practicing how to write an informative paragraph. There will be an assessment at the end of the week!

In Fundations we will continue in Unit 7. last week we worked on the sounds of ing, ang, ung, ong. These are glued sounds. This week we will work with ank, onk, unk, ink. So far so good! I’d suggest asking your child how to spell words with these sounds. Such as ring, sang, hung, song, thank, honk, sunk, sink. Speaking of Spelling did you notice that we will have our first Spelling test on Thursday? The words are trick words from Unit 2 and Unit 3 of Fundations! Please study these words each night so the children are ready for the test on Thursday. It is so important for these sight/trick words to be read and written with automaticity.
As you know the the children will be off from school on Thursday and again on Monday. Please find some time to read each day!! Have a good week!

Monday and throughout the week we will spend some time reviewing and also moving forward to new lessons. Let’s start with Wit and Wisdom. Presently we are in Module 2 Lessons 1 to 9 which we will review on Monday! Then on Tuesday we will begin Lesson 10 which is a new book called Me….Jane by Patrick McDonnell. It is an inspiring story about Dr. Jane Goodall. Jane devoted much of her life living among the apes in the African Wilderness. I have already been to the public library and have taken out many books about Jane Goodall. Please put these rainy days to good use and do the same. Looking forward to seeing how many children come to school with books about this amazing environmentalist! Does anyone have a monkey/ape stuffed animal! That’d be fun to get our lessons started!!
In Religion we will begin Chapter 11 which talks about how the Holy Spirit helps the church to grow. We will also attend 9;00 Mass on Tuesday. Always so nice to see everyone there!!
In Math we will continue working in Chapter 5. We will review all the strategies that the children may use in order to solve a particular problem.
In Fundations we will begin Unit 7.
In Science we will start to talk about the Amazon Rain Forest which goes hand in hand with our lessons on Jane Goodall. Both deal with Africa and the importance of preserving God’s wonderful creations such as the rain forest and all the beautiful animals and their habitats!
So again looking forward to an exciting week!

In ELA we will begin Module 2 in Wit and Wisdom. The first concentration is on Fables. A fable is a short story that is usually about animals and it teaches us a lesson. We will be reading 2 fables on Monday– The Ants and the Grasshopper and also The Hare and Tortoise.
Ask your child what fables they read in school today and what was the lesson it taught. See how much they can tell you!! On Tuesday you will receive a class list with the name of a fable next to your child’s name and an activity for your child to go along with it!! Looking forward to reading fables this week!
In Religion we continue talking about Advent. We will light our first Advent candle. The priests will be over this week to bless our wreaths! Please remember to got to Mass each Sunday as we get our hearts ready for the birth of Jesus.
In Math we will continue working in Chapter 4 on our Subtraction strategies. While doing homework ask your child what strategy they are going to use to solve the problems. Some might use a # line. Some might put the biggest number in their head and count back. Let them verbalize so you know what strategy they would use in class and also on tests. When working on a word problem do the same. Please do not tell them how to solve it but instead ask them how they are going to figure it out. Are we adding or subtracting? What words told you to choose that operation? What is the problem asking? Questions such as these are very important. It’s not so much the correct answer but the ability to know how you are going to arrive at that answer.
Please remember this Tuesday we will sending home report cards. Most of you have signed up for conferences for either Wednesday or Friday. If you missed the online sign up and would still like to meet just drop me a note and we’ll set up a time on either of those two days.
