Academy Family Association 2021-2022 Executive Board Candidates
Candidate #1: Lisa Hayden
My name is Lisa Hayden and I would be proud to serve on the Academy Family Association Executive Board as President for the 2021-2022 school year. My husband, Patrick & I were married in 2008 in St. Francis de Sales Church and happily chose to raise our four children here who all currently attend St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy: Patrick-6th Grade, Brendan-5th Grade, Olivia-2nd Grade, and Joseph-Pre-Kindergarten. I currently serve on the Parish Council where I partner with select members from our community to help support and raise funds for the Church. In March of 2016, I founded RBNY Family Support, a group dedicated to supporting parents/caregivers who have children with Special Needs. In addition, for the past 7 years, I have been an active volunteer at the school as a Class Captain and you can often find me helping out in my children’s classrooms, working book fairs, and organizing beach parties! My professional background is specifically in Public Relations & Special Event Planning in the Fashion & Auto Industries. The many skills I obtained from working in that field for over 15 years will help benefit my role on the Executive Board as communication, organization, partnership, delegation and follow-through were key components of my success. I truly look forward to collaborating with the other members of the Board as well as Dr. Scharbach, Mrs. Faughnan, faculty, and staff to create an effective partnership with our parents and children to keep us all connected, involved, informed, and most of all happy in the coming school year. I look forward to having this opportunity to serve the school community and I promise to do everything in my power to be a fair and hard-working liaison between the school and our parents. I look forward to seeing you all at upcoming meetings and events. God Bless.
Candidate #1: Tim Henning
My wife, Kelly, and I are the proud parents of two girls: Caleigh (Grade 1) and Mairead (Grade 3). I myself am a graduate of SFDS, Class of ‘94. I then attended Archbishop Molloy HS before earning my degree from New York University.
In my professional career, I serve as the Associate Director of the Heisman Trophy Trust where my responsibility areas include the marketing, sponsorship sales, and activations, event execution, media and public relations for the Heisman Memorial Trophy; the oversight of the staffing, operational and logistical aspects of the Heisman Trophy weekend and office and spearheading our charitable giving program which annually donates more than $2.5M to worthwhile charities, predominantly youth development organizations. I am confident that my experience in these areas can be an asset to the Academy Family Association.
Personally, I currently serve on the Fundraising Committee and Parish Council for St. Francis de Sales Parish. Of relevant experience, I previously served as Vice-Chair of the former St. Camillus Catholic Academy Board of Directors, President of my Alumni Association at NYU as well as a member of the NYU All Alumni Board of Directors.
I am a staunch advocate of Catholic Education. I have long felt that the Academy is on an amazing trajectory and look forward to supporting our school leaders to further cement the mission of our great school.
Candidate #1: Pete Mullen
Pete Mullen is a 20+ year St. Francis de Sales parishioner and father of four, all of whom have been educated at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy (Sean Peter ’17, Fiona ’18, Brendan ’20, and Niamh ’25). Professionally, Pete has 25+ years of experience in financial services holding a number of leadership positions across consumer banking product, segment, client experience, marketing, and relationship management roles.
Pete holds a number of St. Francis de Sales Parish leadership positions. He is a member of the Parish Finance Council and leader of the Fundraising Committee, hosting marquee events such as Oktoberfest. Pete is a founding member of the ROCK Youth Ministry Program. He and his wife, Moira, lead the SFDS Pre-Cana Program and are active Eucharistic Ministers. Pete has coached a number of CYO teams through the years and has led keySt. Francis de Sales Sales Catholic fundraising efforts including the Shilelagh Law and Unforgettable Fire concerts.
As this is the inaugural year of the SFDS Academy Family Association (AFA), it is critically important that proper financial reports, records, routines, and procedures are put in place from the outset. Pete intends to leverage his vast experience and expertise in finance and banking as AFA Treasurer and (1) ensure the right controls, checks and balances are in place at all times and (2) deliver constant and complete financial transparency to the AFA executive committee, SFDSCA administration, and general membership of the SFDS Catholic Academy.
Candidate #2: Yvonne Teich
Yvonne Teich and her husband Fred moved to Rockaway from Brooklyn in 2002. They have 3 wonderful and keep-you-on-your-toes children: Olivia, who is in 7th grade, Julia now in her Junior year at Fontbonne Academy, and Freddy, a Senior at Regis High School. This will be her 14th year, (yes 14!!) as a St Francis De Sales parent, many of which she’s been a class parent. Throughout the years, Yvonne has been an active supporter of the SFDCA family. Following Superstorm Sandy, she spearheaded a wishlist/donation drive for our Nursery and Pre-K classrooms, linking the generosity within and beyond our community directly with the “essentials” needed for our students. Yvonne has also served as captain and co-captain on several school-sponsored fundraisers and events such as our Annual Card Party, book sales, Christmas boutiques, and various graduation events.
Professionally, Yvonne is a Client Delivery Executive for a global IT organization. She manages several multimillion-dollar accounts and is responsible for overall account P&Ls while facilitating revenue growth and cost reductions through technology solution delivery and revenue cycle processes.
In her spare time, Yvonne enjoys spending time with her family and friends, staying active, traveling, and appreciating her carpools. Having raised their children within the halls of St Francis De Sales has been an absolute blessing for Fred and Yvonne. She looks forward to further supporting our school, parish, and community in the years to come.
Candidate #1: Jennifer Burke
I am the mother of two boys Kieran (Grade 5) and Matthew (Grade 3). We are members of Blessed Trinity Parish.
I earned a Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Nutrition and a Master of Education in Community Nutrition from Columbia. With my education, I was able to work as a research dietitian early in my career and then was able to move into the pharmaceutical world. I have been working at Bayer HealthCare for the past fourteen years in various roles where I currently work as an Associate Director of study management. I have managed internal employees as well as external employees and contractors. I have been responsible for numerous successful studies, oftentimes managing several studies at one time. I have also managed multi-millionaire dollar study budgets. I facilitate meetings on a daily basis, ensuring the flow of the meetings and meet all of the objectives. For most meetings, I provide a summary of meeting minutes within 24 hours or less of the meeting.
Much of my volunteer work has been as the Chair for Bayer’s Making Science Make Sense program which provides a hand’s-on STEM experience for elementary students. In addition to organizing the program, I schedule various volunteer activities, meet with local organizers to plan events, and volunteer at the events.
I was very excited to see that St. Francis will have the Academy Family Association giving us additional opportunities to volunteer and to be involved in our children’s growth.
