Adventure, imagination, and discovery await - right between the pages of a book!
We are excited to invite all children (1-8) to participate in the Second Lady's 2026 Summer Reading Challenge!
Joining is easy: Just read 12 books of your choice between June 1st and September 5th and track your progress on the attached Reading Log. Each book you read brings you a step closer to completing the challenge. Once you've read 12 books, ask your parents/guardians to let the White House know, and they will send you a personalized certificate and a small prize! With your completed form submission they will enter your name into a drawing for the chance to visit the Nation's Capital with a chaperone. Terms and conditions apply. More information can be found at wh.gov/read.
Let the reading adventures begin!

Hallow Prayer App
Dear Parents,
We have put together a Summer Prayer Plan with suggested ways that your child can stay active with their prayer lives this summer. We’ve also included ways that you can pray together as a family over the summer. We encourage you to participate with your child using the Hallow app to pray every day.
To sign up for the Hallow App
Our school has partnered with Hallow, the #1 Catholic prayer platform to provide Hallow as a resource to strengthen both the mental and spiritual health of the school community. Hallow contains over 10,000 audio-guided prayers spanning from quick minute meditations to entire holy hours, dozens of music albums and ‘praylists,’ and everything in between. The app is specifically designed to offer something for everyone, and in the classroom we’ll use Hallow to help our religion classes.
Through the school's partnership, you have the option to create an account on behalf of your student to access everything on the platform, including hundreds of prayers specifically designed for Kids, Teens, and Families. Pray along on evenings and weekends!

Completed medical forms must be returned on or before September 1, 2025.
Please return all forms and immunizations to the school office. If you have any questions you can reach the school nurse at 718-474-4276.

2026-2027 School Year Calendar
By sending your child to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy, you are agreeing to have your child wear the uniform that has been selected. Students are expected to be in complete uniform at all times unless something unusual happens and a note is sent in by the parent.
Please click here for a few helpful reminders when getting your children’s uniform’s ready this summer.
For the full uniform policy please click here.
Some reminders as we get those Back to School Haircuts and go to the store for shoes and other items.
As the weather gets colder some students like to wear a school sweater or sweatshirt in the classroom. The only sweater or sweatshirt that students will be allowed to wear are the school sweater and quarter zip sweatshirt from Flynn and O’Hara.
Hair must be a natural color. Streaking, highlighting, lowlights, glints, etc. are not permitted.
In terms of shoes. In grades 1-8 for winter uniform the child must have Black rubber sole shoes. Please note that these must be dress shoes, not sneakers. This will always be up to the discretion of the administration. In grades 1-8 for summer uniform black or brown shoes (sneakers and sandals are not permitted; Sperrys/Boat shoes without design or bright colors may be worn with white/black socks) In Nursery, Pre-K and kindergarten students wear sneakers all year long.
Hair must be clean, neatly combed, not totally covering the ears or eyes, or falling below the shirt collar (boys).
Flynn & O’Hara continues to be our only uniform supplier. If you need anything for next year, I suggest that you visit the store early in the summer to avoid the crowds. The store location is The Shops at Atlas Park, 8000 Cooper Avenue, Lower Level, Glendale, NY 11385. Uniforms can also be ordered online at flynnohara.com,or by phone at 718-326-2704.
Please email Mrs. Danielle Farragher at [email protected] with any questions.

Special Education
We do ask that all parents of a new student to our school who has an IEP or IESP please arrange for a time to speak via phone over the summer with Mrs. Buckley at [email protected] about the special education services that are offered at St Francis de Sales Catholic Academy. Mrs. Buckley is our Special Education Coordinator and will be your go-to person with any questions about Annual Reviews, IESPs, and testing accommodations for standardized tests.
Please note that majority if not all of the services for our junior high students (Grades 7 and 8) occur before or after school and many times outside of our school building. Please note that all IEPs must be transferred to an IESP for services to be provided. This conversion usually takes place within the first three weeks of the school year.
Finally, if you have yet to provide the school with the most up-to-date IEP we do ask that you email that documentation to us ASAP. If you have any questions Mrs. Buckley will do her best to answer.
I-Ready
Before the end of the school year the 2026 Spring Diagnostic Assessment were shared with you.
i-Ready diagnostic assessments are computer-based assessments that adjust to each child’s mathematics and reading ability levels. If your child took an i-Ready diagnostic assessment this school year, this end-of-year check will start with content based on those prior results and adapt from there. As your child answers each question, the test adapts based upon your child’s responses. The questions become easier if the answers are incorrect and get more challenging as correct answers are provided. Students will see challenging questions. By finding what students can do, and not do yet, the system is able to provide a more accurate description of your child’s instructional level. This type of assessment individualizes every testing experience so that it more accurately measures your child’s ability.
The assessment data is to help understand where your child is in relation to grade-level standards, provide for practice and assignments at your child’s academic level, and monitor academic growth this school year.
i-Ready will remain available to students through the middle of August. Students and families can decide if they would like to continue to use the MyPath lessons in i-Ready this summer.
During the last week of August the school needs to roll over the i-Ready system and roster students for the upcoming school year. At this time, students will no longer be able to log in. This is a function of the system as we set up rosters for the next academic year. Once the school year begins and the fall diagnostic assessment is administered each student's MyPath will be re-established. Please note that students who are new to our school are not able to use this program over the summer, yet will take a diagnostic test in the first few weeks of new school year.
Tuition
Just a reminder that Monday 8/17 the first tuition payment is due for the 2026-2027 school year. All families should have a FACTS account. (https://factsmgt.com/) Here you can see how much is owed, dates when tuition or other fees are due, past payments, etc. Any questions about your account please reach out to our Bookkeeper Mrs. Margret Daly at [email protected]
Volunteering
For the safety and well being of each and every child in our school, all volunteers must go through the following process:
1) Read and sign a code of conduct
2) Have a background check
3) Take part in the VIRTUS program. (Register at virtusonline.org. Download the registration guide.)
Full compliance requires the following:
Volunteers who already have a Virtus account should log in before September 1st to confirm that all information is current. Please also make sure your account includes a valid email address so you receive notifications when a new training module is assigned.
For further assistance, please contact the Safe Environment Office at 718-965-7300 ext. 6076 or via email at [email protected].
Please note that anyone who is not fully compliant before the start of the new school year in September will not be eligible to volunteer.
Thank you for helping us create a Safe Environment where our children can thrive physically, spiritually, and academically.
